'audiophile' switches

Has anyone tried the SoTM switch, the top special edition looks interesting?

Which version of their range out of interest?

The ER if new does need - IMO of course - at least 10 days to break-in and begin to open-out, But that was with the bundled cheap supply it sells with so how much is the supply and how much the internal ER box decouplers - unknown but it is probably a mix of both.

Interested in what you find. Brand new ER is very clean and detailed but a bit over-lean sounding for my taste - but all that went over time and it correctly became smoother and with more immersive presentation. The PS upgrade is next to try - been putting it off as my system is sounding good already so not having that upgrade-itch and always happy to defer that.

I’ve no explanation as to why it has any effect, other than it does. My Cisco 2060 sounded coarse and grainy by comparison to the ER - and I get a big 3D image into the room in a way I’d not heard done before with the ER…but the main thing was vocals and sense of greater insight into performance in rendering of fine detail of inflection and subtleties of voicing…going back to Cisco was ‘wow growl’ impressive but missing what the ER gave.

Just a mere plan…the Plixir range on their website has a specific router/switch power supply, and many others. Will call Signals tomorrow…i think they have the elementa and the elite…will have a Chat, they are i think £380and £680 respectively.

I think you will find they rate the larger supply as infinitely better! :bear:

I think you might be slightly disappointed if you base your expectations on a strict mathematical interpretation of Darkebear’s interpretation of Signal’s view of the larger supply.

Perhaps it’s as little as only 10 times better :sunglasses:

Not too bad then…as its only double the price of the other one😬

My discussion with them was, with respect to their use on a Melco switch:
1. Expensive PS = Impressive and Transformative
2. compared to Entry-level PS = Does not release the full potential

So I think 1/2 = …ok - a lot better. The ‘infinite’ did come with the qualifier

…also realize I’m using an ‘adequate PS’ only!
But that is with the ER.

As ever, we must take the time to listen ourselves…i will call them tomorrow as the as the Plixir global website has many more application specific psu available. Take care👍

I half hope you don’t find it makes much difference - but suspect it really does.
I will enjoy finding out myself sometime.

Excellent in fact. Let’s see what your impressions are after listening.

Gaza, good luck, as we have said before, there is no mystery here despite some of the posts in the thread, it is a rather well understood path in the professional world, admittedly less so in the consumer world, and I have shared several (some now relatively old) engineering design guides on reducing coupled interference from Ethernet on host hardware, but I guess if you have no electronic design background it might not mean much … However different switches will ‘sound’ different, just like different Ethernet cables and different Naim firmware, a lot of it is to do with noise shaping and modulation voltage clocking phase distortion in the Ethernet serial PHYsical interface… and indeed Naim take advantage of similar aspects when optimising new firmware… or at did at least they did a couple of years ago when I corresponded with Naim engineering on what they did in noise shaping with their firmware and the underlying digital electronics.

So you will hear almost certainly a difference… you have to decide whether it’s a presentation difference or SQ improvement… and that is where the sub conscious thinking comes in, or it might be it doesn’t matter to you.

If you like the new presentation, you might want to think about using (still using) a more capable ‘guard’ switch supporting IGMP snooping in front of the serial line reclocking audiophile switch, so as to give more consistent performance with group data on your home network with respect to redundant group data processing by your streamer.

The aim here, with all things being equal, is to reduce the amount of overhead network processing your streamer has to do for the best SQ. (like WAV tends to sound better than FLAC) … IGMP snooping will help if you have consistent background group data applications on your network.

Thanks Simon…i managed listening to Superlumina at home 3 times without buying despite being told it was a great set of cables…though i almost caved in  So this will be interesting to say the least.

Looking forward to your feedback on the ER and Power Supply, Gazza.

Just remember to dig out the earwax that must have been present when you listened to SuperLumina.

You got that pressure washer handy😉

You’ll need an expert operator for that and I charge £20 per hour, no job too small, no comebacks.

Interested?

Have you got a reopening plan for the pub, or is still too restrictive to make a living?

As I am writing nonsense on here you can probably guess we are still waiting for the Government to lift lockdown on Pubs. Looks like something might happen on 4 July but Pubs will be the last to reopen fully, due to the nature of the business. We will have to see if the opening restrictions make the business workable.

BTW, all forumites, cleaning out ears with a pressure washer is dangerous and takes an expert. Do not try this at home.

Silly thread diversion over.

What!!!

Just as I was about to suggest

I heard it is most effective for cleaning both ears simultaneosly, leaving a clear view from one side of your head to the other, and permanent curing of unpleasant pressure effects when flying or on a train through a tunnel.
