'audiophile' switches

Sir, are you suggesting there is fresh air between my ears!

How very dare you!

Yours, outraged, of Chesham.

(Methinks this banter could rumble on).

Well, it seems simple. In your case, go for the amps that measure badly.

Not all amps that measure badly sound good however. (I assume you were joking).

Somewhat tongue in cheek, yes.

I have just ‘borrowed’ a Melco S100 from my dealer, Cloney Audio. It won’t be going back!

If they sound very fine, it would not be a problem. And sometimes it’s the case.

I am currently using a Cisco SF100D-05. A kind friend is giving me a Paul Pang switch with iFi power supply. This will be used in the Dual PC setup that I run into my Naim DAC and Naim XPS. Will report again when it arrives and I have a chance to install and listen.

How are your sound impressions ? Different from Michael ?

I’m not sure what Michaels impressions were, but for me, the main difference is a reduction in ‘noise’, greater separation of instruments, clearer vocals etc. etc.
For what it does it is VFM for me. I have that strong desire to listen to my entire collection again, ASAP - always an indication of a major upgrade.

Only after you direct a pressure washer into one ear!

(Before that any air might not be fresh  )

Hi DB
When you come to try a power supply, I think the Sean Jacobs DC4 is a must in a system like yours,

Have you got yours now? :grinning:

Hi Michael,
Yes, running in but already sounding very impressive. I have you to thank for it, once you mentioned it the seed was sown.

Why ? DB needs only 1 rail. I would more go to Plixir ( @Gazza will soon try it) or MCRU option 3 for Etheregen.
The price of the Dc4 is for 4 rails.
Or perhaps Sean Jacobs can make one with one rail.

If my memory servs me correctly @Darkebear mentioned he had an old psu that he would try at some point?

Yes mine is 4 rails but it comes with one as standard.

Well you had the brilliant idea of asking Sean to split it into 2 boxes. I wish I’d thought of that! Is it a big jump up from the DC3? And how’s the run-in. Curiously I found it more slow and steady final mile on the “DC3+” than the jump I got with the high-output DC3 for the Nucleus…

Thanks for the tips Simon. Followed the setup guide and was able to get the 2960 into express setup, set a new IP address and password and now i can view it via the web interface on my Mac. Now to have a bit more of a dig into the logs…

Hi Michaelb.
From cold it didn’t sound worse but a couple of times last night I was blown away, quite staggering and it’s was only day 2. It replaced a mixture of ages of dc3’s. If it improves any more I will be very happy and thoroughly recommend it.

Ah ok, didn’t know. Thought dc4 is 4 rails, dc3, 3 rails…
