Can’t get much nearer the live experience than an exact copy direct from the soundboard on the night

I went to a Simple Minds concert back in 2011 at Bedgebury Pinetum, part of the Forestry Commission’s concert programme. On the night I was able to buy a CD of the gig on the way out. It was properly packaged up and came on 2xCD with a third, pre-printed blank CD-R disc and a download code for the encore part of the gig. I thought then that this was the way forward for gigs, buy a recording on the way out but alas that was the only time I’ve seen it. I can’t be the only one that would be happy to pay a tenner on the way out of a gig for a proper recording of it on a CD or thumb drive?
I’ve just checked concertlive.co.uk and the link no longer works so clearly the idea didn’t catch on.

Antonio Forcione Live, on the Naim label!
Friday Night in San Francisco
Eva Cassidy, live or studio
The FNSF is and old recording. Still does the job. It has been re-released as a double album, 45 RPM and raved about by Ken Kessler in the latest Hi-Fi News. Not easy to buy in the UK. USA?

Erasure, OMD have done similar, I think Elton may have done as well. They’ve also been made available after the event. Live, Here, Now is the company I believe. As you say a nice thing to have.

One of mine too, was at one of the recording. Amazing live band.

Goldfrapp did the same thing on their 2005 and 2010 tours, and the Pixies did it in 2008, IIRC.

Free Live.

Lynyrd Skynyrd. One more from the road.

Live Bullet and Nine Tonight. Both Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band.

Thin Lizzy. Live and Dangerous. ( Some dispute as to how much of it is live ).

If you haven’t heard this I’d thoroughly recommend it. Possibly the best sounding live album I’ve heard.

It’s the way they take it right to the edge of nearly falling apart…
