Quick update / conclusion. System now reinstalled. It usually takes around a week to come fully on song but even now from stone cold it sounds wonderful. The whole exercise has been a considerable time waster, inconvenience and has cost us some money. At least I’ve got the urge to change out of my system now and I shan’t try anything like that again in a hurry.
I just want to move on and forget all about it. I’ll leave this thread open in case anyone wants to say anything further but otherwise thanks to everyone who’s contributed with your valuable insight and experience which has really helped my thought processes in reaching the right conclusion for me.

I throughly enjoy the whole read and great to learn from thinking process you went through. I mean in some way we did struggle in similar way as well, just daily life of audiophile and don’t know what not to like.

I understand that a mid-life crisis is quite common!
I believe so. But seen as I’m around twenty years or so beyond that point nothing I experience now can really be attributed to it!
