Quite pleased with the Kestrel shot, lovely bird. Can’t get a decent shot of a Hoopoe, not given up yet but they seem skittish and nervous.

It’s almost time for the annual visit to Lake Hornborgar to witness the dance of the cranes before they fly on to their nesting grounds. On an average day, around 10,000 cranes gather, but the record is 27,300 for a single day.

By very far, my favorite hawk, the Red-tail. These larger hawks are a bit slower so the nimble song birds do not vacate the area when they show up. They prey mostly on rabbits and rodents. When in the right mood, the Red-tails allow humans to shorten the distance and observe them from close. For that I am very thankful. They stay year around with us so any day may produce an encounter with one of them or on special occasions a pair.
