Since Monday, I’ve swapped the BJC Cat6 & MeiCord, putting the Meicord on the BB Hub branch & the BJC on the NDX.
I listened to NAS over numbers of hours each day/evening & a bit of iRadio during the day. It didn’t improve anything, not saying it was worse, it was all very subtle but confirmed my previous experiment that the BJC had a lighter touch & the MeiCord had more body - & I preferred the MeiCord on the NDX branch. Tonight I’ve put it back to how it was & I’m sticking.
I am running more the BJ cat 6a and will try again in 10 days.
I had the meicord before and the BJ reminded me it , but with less body too. I prefer bones with meat, or something like that ?
Big thanks to TiberioMagadino for bringing BJC to my attention. I have stopped being a fiddleaholic.
Got a pile of Ethernet cables sitting in a cupboard now
I find in my system the BJC has more meat on it than the Vodka which is why I didn’t like it to begin with but it has tightened since. I’m not a great lover of fat sounding systems. I like a bit of lean, mean speed like Bruce Lee to my sound. Give me fast, tight and fleet of foot over lardy and ponderous all day long.
‘Lardy and ponderous’ was my nickname at school.
They’e a lot nicer than the ‘nicknames’ I had at school I can assure you.
Tatey?
Tates?
Tatty?
Steve?
Vodka??
Spud or Tatty!
Take your pick!
Miine was Jimaaa.
Or Jampot!
I feel quite relieved my Ethernet cable journey has come to an abrupt end if I’m honest. I don’t really like swapping around with cables, I’m easily swayed and it detracts me from enjoying the music. I did the same thing with speaker cables in the early nineties and was glad I settled on NAC A5 pretty darn quickly and have used it ever since.
I now have a handful of rather expensive Ethernet cables I need to get rid of as a result. If Naim did Ethernet cables then I would of just got those and not bothering with anything else to begin with. I guess things aren’t quite that easy with networking. Anyway the BJCs seem to have sorted that out for now and for a very reasonable cost as well.
I may even try the wireless option as rumour has it that the new Naim streamers are very good in this regard.
Oh oh…
G
… Now i’m gonna swap cables and wireless.
The annoying thing about my NDX2 is I need to re-type in the wifi password every time I take my ethernet out, so gave up on that testing pretty quickly. I actually removed all the antennas and put them back in the box so they weren’t picking up any signals. Stick to Ethernet Stephen, give yourself a break man Blue Jeans Ethernet cables are sparkling. Excellent for the price.
Did it sound different after you did that?
On my 272 I kept one of the 2 antennae in - I think it was to help it talk to the iPad, but can’t remember now.
Think I disabled wifi in settings menu too.
Maybe I should test wifi vs ethernet (just to make sure it’s not better).
Then test whether I need that one antenna at all.
Tee….hee…
5 to 1 Stephen goes wireless.
I have just seen that AQ now make audiophile antennae for the ND555…only £1000 a pop.
Worth a try Stephen?
Nigel, put me down for three for my ND555 then I can wrap my Vodka cables around the Christmas tree.
… and why not, no RF stub effects meanz no cable noise, no switch SMPS hash, no near end cross talk, no return loss, no timing smear issues, it has to be better, & no budget busting pricing, air is free.
I’ll go evens that he gives it a try & 2 to 1 he tries it more than once
….and I was kidding about audiophile antennae, but now you make such a good case for wireless, Mike, posh antennae could be the next big thing.
Mike, you also know quite a bit about radio antennae IIRC. How about we knock up a few posh WiFi antennae, add a very hefty margin, and flog 'em online? Split the profits 50/50?
As Del-boy used to say, ‘stick with me and next year we could be millionaires’.
D’oh! Just realised, not very smart of me to give away my brilliant idea on here. There will be countless copycat antennae, made in China no doubt.
I doubt wifi will sound better than wired.
