British speakers, house sound?

I have an unfortunate update to this thread. I was planning on going to pick up my new Chord Mscaler, and demo some Harbeth speakers this past Saturday. I had a slip and fall accident at work on Thursday night, resulting in my Quad (thigh) tendon becoming detached from my knee. I had successful surgery on Sunday, but with at least 3 months off work ahead of me, possibly more with therapy, upgrades to my system are on hold for now. The dealer is holding my Mscaler for me until I get back on my feet (literally). Fortunately I have all the time in the world to listen to music now, with my already excellent setup.

Blimey this puts a different slant on relaxing and putting your feet up for Christmas wishing you a speedy recovery.

Thank you guys, priorities change rapidly in situations like this, but my spirits are high, and living in Canada is where you want to be in my situation. Our health care is free, or part of our tax system, so I am in good hands.

Really hope you are fully recovered as soon as possible.

Pedant warning… but you almost certainly don’t own your music, unless you wrote it or bought the rights out right… what you own is the physical medium (foil/plastic etc) plus the perpetual rights to listen to the music encoded in a personal capacity.
Streaming is different in as far as you lease the licence and you own no physical medium.

get well soon…

in the mean time books and music can be able companions…

not to mention lots of sleep

regards

Best wishes for a full recovery.

Good luck with the rehabilitation program, give it your all and work through the discomfort and you will be thankful later on down the road.

No Quarter-
Sorry to hear about your accident. Re-hab (and music) will help the time go by. As I said earlier,I bought my harbeth 30.1 from reviews only. I’m somewhat disabled - now walk and get around with a rollator (fancy name for 4 wheeled walker) but for a long time was limited to a wheechair. A good physical therapy and time will help. More time for music is just a nice side benefit

Hope you get better soon, and as you say your health care is a lot better than your neighbours to the south.

Can’t the dealer courier your m scaler to you?

Yes he could, but I still owe 3 k on it, which I would rather have in the bank right now, until I figure out what I will be paid on workers compensation. He is perfectly fine just holding on to it for me.

Sorry to hear that No-Quarter, hope you make a full and speedy recovery.

Enjoy the music in your recovery time.

As you say, Canada is a fine country with fine values. It’s the luck of the draw where you’re born. You’re one of the lucky ones.

British speakers , house sound ?
Most traditional British speaker users have relatively small rooms. Some lucky to have larger ones.
Most users will require a clear rendition of enunciated vowels of recorded diction sounding similar to how one sounds within ones chosen arena.

Sorry, I missed this. I hope the recovery goes well for you. Time to demo some Totems then :sunglasses:

Thanks Mike, it has only been a week an a half since surgery, so I have not been able to get around too much yet, but after a few more weeks, I might venture out to Toronto to demo some speakers. For some reason I have never had an urge to demo Totem, it might be due to the fact that I have used mostly Dynaudio for the last 6-8 years, and a fellow Dyn user (Spurrier Sucks) came from Totem to Dyn, and never looked back. I will have a listen if possible though, but my main focus will be various Harbeth speakers for now. I would also love to hear the new Dyn confidence 20’s, and Kudos 505’s, but that is not so easy to do, plus they are way above my budget right now.

Wishing you a full and speedy recovery. When I bought my first Naim system around 13 years ago (CDX2, NAC202, NAP200) I demo’d many different speakers including Totem, Naim (Allaes), Dynaudio, Spendor, Pro-Ac and PMC. In the end I kept coming back to the Totem Forests and that’s what I ended up buying. One of their characteristics was that they just seemed to fill the whole room with sound - no issues about having to sit in a sweet spot to get the full benefit. Thirteen years on, and after lots of upgrades, I’ve still got them and they just seem to get better and better. I recently did a comparison with some Kudos C30s, which were good but I didn’t feel the need to change. I’m pretty sure they are here for the duration now…unless maybe the newer ones are even better?? Anyway, I’d certainly give Totems a listen as they do go very well with Naim. As ever with speakers though it’s a very personal choice.

Thanks for the kind words ChrisD, can I ask you which Dynaudio speakers you listened to. I have owned quite a few of their speakers over the years. On a positive note, I just received a call from my work, informing me of what my pay will be from worker’s compensation, and luckily I worked lots of overtime the previous 4 weeks to my accident, and that is what they Base it on. Now I don’t need to worry about money while recovering, and might be able to resume my next speaker search before too long.
