Firewall on the NAS ?
Finally cracked it! After establishing DHCP was running on both - then deactivating it on the NAS. Then performing a full restart on; Router, NDX2, then NAS. It miraculously appeared - see below! I can also see the Synology in VLC now - see bottom. MASSIVE thanks to everyone who chipped in and assisted with this. You were all invaluable in helping me find a solution. Happy New Year!
Woohoo…and a very Happy New Year to you.
You have to know I am relieved that you got it all worked out. ![]()
Thanks Dean - much appreciated. ![]()
I even had a quick play around with Qobuz Connect, this morning - which has been most impressive so far. Have a good one!
Dan
Now you need a XPS-DR. ![]()
If only I had the funds! Maybe, if I can quickly find new homes for all my Olive Series components - you never know?! ![]()
Brilliant news, and as stated before your network and NAS are now in a much better place!
Yeah, I think having this problem and resolving it did Dan a favor. His LAN networking was definitely flawed/corrupt.
Absolutely! Thanks again, Ian. ![]()

Now that everything’s fixed I think @thedanadamsusa has disappeared into his listening room to stream his entire NAS library, never to be seen again. LOL
Haha, you’re not so far from the truth! As a married man, there’s only so much time I can devote to critical listening, so concessions must be made. I have genuinely enjoyed hearing the new setup in the last couple of days though! Been randomly selecting songs I know well, to help me evaluate - I’ve just broken into the ‘Bs’ on my NAS.
So, no regrets on the NDX2? ![]()
None so far. I’ve been experimenting with Qobuz Connect, and looking forward to see what the Headphone section of the SN3 has to offer next.
Hey, Dan, I’m so glad you came up for air. LOL
I have commented elsewhere. I think Qobuz Connect sounds great, and somewhat better than using Qobuz via Roon, but I have a big problem with their metadata and user experience.
As an analog aficionado – where the user experience handling and reading record jackets is great – when digital has a poor user experience, that diminishes the music enjoyment experience for me overall. Roon is imperfect, but for me it’s much better than Qobuz Connect in that regard.
My digital replacement for the NDX2 will make it all moot anyway. It’s a a network DAC that exposes a Roon endpoint (or UPnP), but is not a streamer otherwise. I’m not getting a streamer, so Qobuz Connect is out of the picture for me. ![]()
I cannot thank you enough, for being such a generous and considerate seller. It’s always a bit of a leap of faith, when buying a previously loved hi-fi component. But it’s honestly something you made a pleasure, and have excelled at.
The seller in Texas - who sold me the open-box SN3, was a similarly honest and thoroughly decent chap. So I feel immense gratitude for the two components I’ve recently purchased. It’s all about enjoyment now!
I’ve been with Qobuz for over a decade already, and won’t be changing anytime soon in that regard. It will be intriguing to hear how you get along with the next setup though.
Best Wishes,
Dan
Thank you Dan for the vote of confidence. I am committed to make sure anyone who gets my gear is 100% happy with it. I am anal about how I treat my stuff, because I care about it a lot.
I have been on the receiving end too, and understand the stress involved buying used gear, sight unseen. I worried that you had issues with your NAS and am grateful our forum buddies stepped up to help you out. That makes me feel complete that I passed on something in really nice condition.
Happy new year my forum friend.
Nice when it all works out and people are content with the sale..from both sides. Nice one.
Note how you did the restart of the NAS after turning off its DHCP, but not the other devices. That is what tripped you up.
When doing network changes like this you need to cold reboot (turn off at power for 20 secs) everything, even the devices you did not change, due to how network devices interact with each other.
