Careful with the new Software! Volume goes to 100%!

Hi, I’ve just updated the Software to the newest versions (both, Naim Nova and the Android app). Played online Radio and then ANY SLIGHTEST increase of the volume brings the Nova’s volume to 100%, in a split of a second!!! Even though my max. volume was set to 70% in the app. That’s crazy! I almost lost my hearing and the speakers. I stand next to the Nova, turn the volume knob down and once I let it, the volume goes to 100% AGAIN.

Rebooted both - amp and app - and the issue repeats. I’ve disconnected the speakers, don’t want to lose them for good…

Any ideas?

Did you read through the 3.12 Firmware thread. You may want to post on that thread instead of creating a new one.

BTW - I uploaded the software on my NDX 2 this morning and the system is working without any issues.

I have this issue to on my Naim streamer!!

There’s nothing about this issue in the Software thread, which is more SQ oriented.

All worked well this morning untiI I tried to increase volume via the +/- buttons in the Naim app.

Not on my ND555; working as intended

Apparently if you disable the +/- buttons and use the slider it’s fine. As a work around until it’s fixed.

If you look in the 3.12 Firmware thread, you will see that Naim has just said this s a bug in Android only, they have now fixed it, but they need Google to release it to the Play Store, which is currently taking up to a week.

I installed yesterday the new firmware 3.12 on my Nova and it works perfect, without any issues.
And I use the Naim app on the Samsung android phone…

Saw it just now. Thanks! Hope it goes through the Google store quickly.

Did you try to increase volume on the internet radio vis the “+/-” buttons in the Naim app? Better don’t try uf you haven’t

I had the same issue with my ND555 and the Naim app on IOS few weeks ago. Volume went to 100% without touching the remote nor the iPad. I had the chance to sit near the ND when it happened otherwise my speakers and my ears would be broken. I just had to quickly switch off the system. Software version was 3.11. Scary

Appreciate the warning. I see a new android app version is inbound. Think I’ll wait for that before updating

Apparently it is an app issue related to android rather than FW on the streamer. Using the + or - buttons can cause the issue. Best avoided until we get the app fix.

Found this out first hand this evening, much to the fright of family and pets! and in an attempt to save my speakers, knocked my OLED TV off its stand, resulting in damage… Pretty gutted about the whole situation…

According to @Paul.B it’s in the Android App and a particular series of volume button presses that can fool it into thinking it’s a continuous press. Now fixed in the App but will need to work its way onto the store.

I had it as well, change volume setting to slider and restart of android device solved it.

Has he confirmed it’s only the Android app? From what I read he was asking users of iOS whether or not they had an issue. I had a similar issue using iOS with an Atom HE a few weeks back. The volume didn’t go to 100 but it jumped maybe 50+ steps with a few fast volume up presses. It definitely made me nervous wondering if it would happen again and damage my speakers. I’ve always felt that the buttons were safer than they slider, but it seems to be the opposite with this app defect.

It’s non only the Android app, it happened few weeks ago with my system (ND555) controlled with an iPad

I’d be interested in this workaround as I’m genuinely scared to use my system at the moment, after last night! How do you change to slider in Android? (I’m using a Galaxy Z Fold 6, not that it should make a difference, I guess) I’ve been into app settings, which gives ‘Use hardware buttons for volume’ and ‘Bottom bar volume control’ Both of which are selected, but don’t appear to have any affect on control? I only appear to have -/+ buttons regardless of the switching of those settings.
