I connected my new Techniks SL1500c to my Nap150x, Nac122x, switched everything off connected the Turntable but now the cd player will come on, spins but no sound, anyone had this happen? Your thoughts would be appreciated.
CDP output set to din or RCA ?
No that’s the first thing i checked, I also put the cd player connected to the av and nothing out of that either. Turntable is working fine though.
With the CD5X turned off, try removing the link plug and then push it back in. If that doesn’t sort it then it looks like it could be due a trip back to Naim.
What is the CD5x powered by?
I had it plugged in the Flatcap but when it stopped working I unplugged that and put the link plug back in but still nothing.
Yeh that’s what I was thinking but all I keep reading about is how Naim’s parts supply for these old players are non existent.
To which input on the back of the preamp?
And is your CD5x connected to your NAC122x as before, ie. using the same input?
The Turntable is connected to Aux2 and the cd5x was not touched, the rca leads was the only ones I added for the turntable when I connected it, played a few records, then today I put a cd on changed the setting to cd from aux2 and nothing.
Did you read the manual before hooking up the TT? See the text below – I’m unclear, but you may have connected up the sockets at the same time in error?
- 1 Input s o c k e t s
The input selector buttons select the source input signal to be routed to the preamplifier outputs and the power amplifier.
The NAC 122x has six DIN input sockets and two alternative pairs of RCA Phono sockets. The RCA Phono sockets are permanently connected to the CD and AUX 2 inputs in parallel with their DIN sockets. RCA Phono and DIN sockets for the same input should not be connected simultaneously.
No there is no DIN socket for the TT. The system was connected up over 10 years ago with the CD and was not altered, all that was added was the RCA for the TT, nothing else was changed or added. If i’m reading it right what you mean.
Maybe disconnect the TT, and go back to the setup were the CD5X was working. That way you can check whether the CD5X is faulty.
Edit extra information. The NAC122X has automatic input switching. Maybe dissable that function. That might also be the reason that when connecting the cd5x on the AV input and press play on the remote the NAC122X switches to the cd input. Leaving from the manually entered av input to the cd input.
It was just a guess that if, accidentally, you connected up the TT RCA outputs to the CD RCA inputs, and had the CD connected via the CD DIN input, this may not have been good, as these are parallel circuits.
Usually, when things like this arise with CDPs, it because the output selection (vis DIN/RCA) isn’t set right – I see you have already looked at this, but I’d suggest another go(?).
Assign CD5x to RCA out.
Disconnect CD DIN input from the back of preamp.
Use RCA leads that you use for the Technics to connect from the CD5x to the RCA CD input sockets on the preamp. Select the CD input on the preamp. Any sound from CD player?
Thanks for your thoughts. Yes I did try it a couple of times re programming and tried all three but no good. No definitely did not put both on the same circuit.
Yeh that’s a good idea, when i get home I will try that thanks.
Yep tried the RCA’s and still nothing, not looking good is it?
Looks nadgered.
Yeh that’s what i thought, thanks for your help.
For completeness, might be worth trying RCA from CD player to Aux2 RCA inputs too, though I acknowledge you have already said you had no joy into AV (DIN) input.
