If the CDS3 has already had mech changed and a player can be bought at a good price I think you would still very much get value for money.
The factory could not source a replacement transport mech for my CDS2 when it failed a few years back. I managed to find one online and also a retailer who would fit it for me. It is still working. When it fails, I will sell the XPS power supply, junk the CDS2, buy a transport and plug it into my Naim Audio nDAC that I use for streaming.

Or you could keep the XPS and use it to power your nDac which will provide a nice up lift in the sound of the nDac
