Chandos music no longer on Qobus

I have just noticed that I can no longer stream Chandos music on Qobus. What is going on? Does anyone else have this problem? Chandos is one of my favourite classical music labels! Should I close my Qobus account and buy all my music? Any feedback most welcome.

I’d contact Qobuz and ask - bound to be a licensing issue that they’ll know the answer to. It could vary by country, too.

Google told me from Qobus website

NOTE TO OUR SUBSCRIBERS

Chandos wishes to focus on downloading over streaming. Much of the catalogue (most other streaming platforms do not even present) therefore cannot be accessed as part of a streaming subscription. However, in the case of downloading an album from the catalogue, said album will be made available for streaming with your subscription.

That is odd, and I think it may backfire for them (Chandos).

I see 59 Chandos titles in Qobuz download store in UK, but they surely have a considerably more extensive catalogue.

I can stream the first in the list, don’t have time to try others now:

Chandos stuff seems to play fine for me in both Qobuz and Naim apps.

Chris, There is nothing wrong with Chandos, it’s just many are not present on screen to play, weather using the Naim App or Audirvana Studio. I have around 90 Chandos files on Qobus and around 30 don’t work, and this number seems to be increasing.

Did you see my earlier post in this thread? It gives you the explanation. It’s a Chandos decision, not Qobuz.

Hi @simoncs

I have not noticed a whole label disappear before, but there have been a number of albums that I liked that I have ended up buying after they were removed by Qobuz.

As I sometimes find local files a tad better than streamed ones I am not unhappy to then buy them.

It IS a shame that Chandos have been so broad in their removal, one of the good things about streaming is finding out whether it is a recording you want to own.

I do think the current streaming model is not good for content creators and the smaller labels.

That explains why some of my favourites no longer play!

Very often, the tracks/albums have just been added anew under a different ID, and for some reason the app can’t identify them as the same. But searching for them again may turn them up

Though in some cases, like apparently in this one, they are actually removed entirely

I wonder if the streaming model is less satisfactory for smaller specialist classical labels such as Chandos. The truly excellent Hyperion label has never been available on any streaming platform including the classical only ones. Some albums on the Alpha label have also disappeared from my Qobuz favourites. I wouldn’t be surprised if some other small labels take the same line.

I guess it increases focus on Idagio, the only remaining classical streaming service, I think. They pay by the minute rather than by the track which probably suits classical material better. It would be great if it were available to stream directly on Naim renderers, ideally in better than CD quality. That would certainly lead to me taking out a subscription.

This highlights one of the key reasons why online streaming holds no interest for me other than auditioning new music (for which sound quality isn’t critical). I would never want the music that I like and want to play to not be available, whether due to changes in licensing, business model, catalogue reviews, viability of the streaming provider etc.

Still no response from Chandos or Qobuz!

Maybe Chandos are worried about their artists making a living from streaming ? Especially in a rather niche market like Classical music.

As Olivia said, ‘let’s get physical, physical…’

Absolutely. Chandos is not DG.

It is already explained by Chandos on their page in the Qobuz website……

Handels Chandos Anthems are great …

David, Many thanks for the info. I am sorry, but I am unable to find the link, can you please provide me with a link. Kind regards, Simon
