Chris Rea Passed Away

The Auberge cover art is beautiful, I really like that, i’ve not seen the CD single artwork before, thats neat too.

I don’t know and can’t explain, but hearing the news about Chris yesterday, has just knocked me for six, never met him, obviously don’t know him, I suppose what makes things worse is “Driving Home For Christmas” is on everywhere, sorry for the ramble, just needed to get it off my chest.

Gary, I felt the same, no need to say sorry. It has hit us hard, as he was a massive part of the soundtrack to the 48 years my wife and I have been together. She saw him promoting the Benny Santini album supporting Lindisfarne when she was nursing in Edinburgh. We purchased the album when she was next home on leave and it all started there. Then to our amazement, we discovered he was a local lad and the son of a well known Middlesbrough ice cream manufacturer and coffee shops proprietor. It seemed to make it bit more special for the area. It’s nice to see the love and respect he is receiving nationally and globally at this sad time.

Actually rare very grounded individual who was in it for the music and not bothered about the fame. Very talented RIP Chris

I’ve been reading this obituary in today’s Guardian. I’m not a big fan of his music, though what comes across is what a thoroughly nice person he was, and how he kept producing the music he loved despite suffering ill health for many years.

I don’t remember who it was, but I have this memory of some rather well known musician stating that Chris Rea was one of the few remaining artists that really had the skills to write great popsongs. I forgot who said it, but I have to agree, the man really wrote some very good popsongs.

And although he himself thought the end result was boring, I really have a soft spot for La Passione.

RIP Chris…

Chris’ Blue Guitars boxset deserves a fuller description.

137 songs over 11 albums covering a wide range of guitar based genre.

Each album would have been a huge hit for any artist or band in any of one these fields. But this is one guy writing over a range of era and styles.

A work of astonishing breadth and depth.

Thanks for sharing this HH as obituaries go, that’s a good one of a nice bloke, who wrote some great tunes and had a passion for cars :+1:

Nice to read the sentiment on this thread, I had bought Road to Hell on vinyl only last week - it’s a sonic treat.

RIP Chris and thank you for the music.
