Connecting non Naim headphone amp

Ok folks, what cable do I need and how do I connect it? I’m attempting to use a Chord Anni as a headphone amp with my 102. 10 years ago I had a headline 2 with a 202 and it had a captive cable.

I need a din to phono obviously but I’ve read somewhere that it isn’t a standard wired din. Is this correct? If so what do I need?

You are correct.

I got my cable from EBay. Search for Naim din rca headphone interconnect. A seller does both types but it is clear in the description. About £30 depending on length.

It works fine for me.

Is this what’s called a 180 degree (I don’t know how to do a degree symbol) 5 pin din? Or is that the normal 5 pin din from a source?

The only outputs are din Bruce.

I don’t know about 180 degrees.

But the wiring does differ between 2 rca to din (source to naim amp) and din to 2 rca (naim amp to headphone amp). The seller I used on eBay knows the difference. I recall he even messaged me to check I had chosen the right one.

Also, if I’m reading correctly, can the aux 1 and av sockets be used instead of the tape out? Is this the same on a 102?

Sorry if this is obvious.

Any of the line level outputs should be fine. I use tuner on mine.

CORRECTION: Sorry, silly me, tuner is input only, I mis-counted the sockets, it was in tape. But I’ve since checked it works fine in tape, vcr and aux on my 82. The volume is via the headphone amp only.

Will you be using the Anni to control the volume of your headphones? If so, i believe you need a cable plugged into the “tape out” outputs and is only wired/connected to the tape out pins. Otherwise you will have two volume controls in the signal path.

FWIW, I used socket 6 on my 102 for my headphone amp, I use the same on my 82. In both cases I only needed four inputs, so used the stick-on labels to blank off the switches for SKTs 5 & 6

Yes, I’ll be using the Anni for volume control to headphones.

Hi, as said; i would advise you to get a cable wired for tape out. I got mine from designercable, but i know chord do a cable designed for connecting to a tape player (Din to 4 rca’s). The disadvantage of that cable is you would have a pair of rca plugs not being used (if that bothers you).
