I graduated that year, and was at the Oval Test. My second Test match, and my first away one. Well it felt like an away Test, I was surrounded by West Indies fans on all side of the ground, it was a great experience, and with stunning bowling from Macco and Big Bird on the days I was there, they were very happy ones.

Yesterday I was watching Malcolm Marshall bowl to Martin Crowe and Jeff Crowe… :slightly_smiling_face:

And

The infamous incident between Javed Miandad and Dennis Lillee.

And

Shoaib Akhtar in full tilt in Aus vs Ricky Ponting…

Great timepass…

I think today’s review system would have elongated that game a fair bit e.g. Fowler’s LBW to Small, where the ball clearly pitched some way outside leg stump. This said, it was great to re-live Greenidge in full power mode, even if he nearly took the ump out!

…and it was also great to see some players without helmets.

They have arrived … here’s the WI touring team.
The West Indies team departed from Antigua yesterday evening for the Sandals Tour of England 2020.

All the touring party based in the Caribbean completed their COVID-19 tests last week and all the results have been confirmed as negative.

On arrival into Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester, the whole touring party will be tested again for COVID-19 as they begin the seven-week tour where they will live, train and play in a “bio-secure” environment, as part of the comprehensive medical and operational plans to ensure player and staff safety.

West Indies test squad: Jason Holder (captain), Jermaine Blackwood, Nkrumah Bonner, Kraigg Brathwaite, Shamarh Brooks, John Campbell, Roston Chase, Rahkeem Cornwall, Shane Dowrich, Chemar Holder, Shai Hope, Alzarri Joseph, Raymon Reifer, and Kemar Roach.

Team Management: Phil Simmons (Head Coach), Rawl Lewis (Team Manager), Roddy Estwick (Assistant Coach), Rayon Griffith (Assistant Coach), Floyd Reifer (Batting Coach), Dr Praimanand Singh (Team Doctor), Ronald Rogers (Strength & Conditioning Coach), Denis Byam (Physiotherapist), Neil Barry Jr (Physiotherapist), Zephyrinus Nicholas (Massage Therapist), Nkoyo Meade (Massage Therapist), Donald LaGuerre (Team Psychologist), A.R. Srikkanth (Team Analyst) and Dario Barthley (Media & Content Officer).

…and to think one schoolmaster used to shepherd us about on a Saturday (and then go and play on a Sunday). Or in the case of the really good cricketer/schoolmaster (say county 2nd XI standard), they only escorted us on Wednesdays, as they were playing league cricket on Saturdays.

If you are booking tickets for the 4th and 5th days, I suspect social distancing won’t be the concern, rather the need to turn up, given other Test games in the UK (bar the Aussies)

I can’t imagine County Cricket without social distancing

Brilliant player - loved watching him.

He has been immortalised in song by the Duckworth Lewis Method

Oh yes, ye olde joke …‘how do you talk to someone in the next seat at county cricket’.

Answer - with a megaphone (and not because they are hard of hearing).

Yes…and Zaheer Abbas etc…not to speak of their splendid bowling attack…

A Pakistan team in full flight is a delight to watch because they can defy conventional thinking…

Some great talent they have and the opponent can never under estimate them.

Hope to see all the teams play sooner rather than later…

Cricket unites the commonwealth…long may it be so.

I heard whispers that they have a one-off test down under…
Is that so @Pete_the_painter?

That will be wonderful…they deserve 3 tests at least…

1 test is too little…

Not heard anything yet. They are talking about releasing a schedule in the next week or so. It’s off season here so I guess there’s no real rush.
