Cricket

…noting when ye olde BT Sports covered the Ashes in Aus many years back (assume they out-bid Sky), England got a pasting, which made early morning viewing unattractive.

Thing is, there’s an increasing orientation towards paying for digital rights e.g. so people can watch on 'phones and alike.

One can only conclude the monetary tail is now wagging the cricket dog.

I’ve just read the outline of the plans for the development of the women’s game in the UK (Project Darwin?), which involves the ECB funding operating costs of ~£90m in order to get the women’s game properly established.

I’d love to read that business/project plan, as there must be so many assumptions within it which are impossible to test, as it’s a complete venture in to the unknown – and the crowds supporting the women’s game have been ‘thin’ (in relative terms) to say the least. All this to pacify the content of the ICEC report, with its highly utopian view of the world.

One cannot help but think that if the ECB has £90m in its coffers, the money could be better spent on grass roots development. And I hope the PD plan has firebreaks in it so that the plug can be pulled/the monetary geyser stemmed if things don’t go to plan. Sorry, but I simply cannot see the women’s game running in parallel to the men’s. The illusions are the same for football IMHO.

I’m a great fan of the England ladies team, they have some great assets

Bumped into and was introduced to Issy Wong in Mumbai airport yesterday as some of the England camp were flying back to the U.K. charming young lady, the team were already clutching a trophy, so they are obviously having a good time in India!

I’m old enough to remember only test matches on tv with Peter West etc.
These were home series only and it made cricket special.
Nowadays cricket seems to be almost 24/7 and I’m starting to become disinterested, especially the limited over games from various leagues.
I’m not sure if it’s due to age or tv saturation.

Possibly both, I like the BBL because of the warmth of the Australian :australia: sun against the coldness of an English winter.

I like the Hundred :100: for the women’s game which isn’t all about power

But the myriad of leagues and other formats leave me cold, but we have to think about the channels that need to show something

Don’t get too excited. :rofl::rofl:

Hate to see you let down badly.

Yes I enjoy it, the commentators despite having always thought of them as just a step down from the anti- Christ in their playing days , look like the sort you wouldn’t mind a beer with,

With one exception

He comes from Tasmania…

That makes if difficult as they normally have 2 heads.:rofl:

But I do know who you mean, great player but a bit annoying as a commentator. However the coverage during the WC was so bias I was staring to look forward to hearing him.

As I’ve said before I like the Big Bash, yesterday two teams in almost identical colours,

Why not have an away strip for when there are clashes like that

I don’t think England play another ODI until 19th September next year.

Probably just as well.

Interesting. Bashir has played 6 County 1st class games and averages 67 with the ball. Blimey.

Jack Leach back and also (uncapped at red ball) spinner Tom Hartley. With Rehman Ahmed that is 4 spinners plus Joe Root.
