2 quick wickets and I’ll be less miserable.
Pete, what hurts (as is reflected in comments above) is that England gifted you several wickets, a constant theme of England’s play nowadays. The media here celebrate Root’s achievements, as we all do, but you know runs have been left out there…..and, often, then the opposition bat and affirm this to be the case, especially when the bowlers are slightly ‘off’. Per above post, England need quick wickets!
I don’t learn. I wake up each morning with optimism and a bit of excitement.
However, England lead the Duck race 10 to 2 and we are only in the second match.
Where is an evening thunderstorm when you need it.
Yes, 3 of our 5 bowlers have white ball economy rates.
oh, things have brightened (a little)
Fine catch by Jacks but England have spent hours plugging the ball in short, then picking the ball up from the boundary behind square on both off and leg side. Stupidity is doing the same thing again and again and expecting a different outcome.
I can cope with lacking talent, but these two Tests so far have shown a lack of cricketing intelligence and flexibility. What are the coaches doing?
Bruce
Always like to see Smith dismissed. Come on, make Australia play for every ball.
Got your 2 wickets
3 now! Another one bites the dust.
And take the lead
Yes, but with 6 men out. And if I’ve learnt anything from Ashes tests over the decades, it is that the match can turn in a space of a few minutes. I fear England’s fielding is letting us down. We have not taken our chances and not enough England players are playing intelligently.
Catches win matches. No further explanation required.
Aaargh
That last one was Smith’s, not Root’s. Tired bodies and brains now.
Bruce
Batters failing to score (dig in). Fielders failing to catch. Some ordinary bowling & field placement. Being batted out of the game now. Damage was done before tiredness kicked in, sadly.
I don’t believe it a 3rd day. ![]()
Just seen a England bowling map. Sawn off shot gun comes to mind.
Whatever the cricketing equivalent of a clean sheet at football is, England just don’t seem to have it.
If the Aussies drop a catch it’s news, which is the same as England taking a catch!
Says something that the Aussie top 6 have all contributed, whereas England rely on Root and a.n.other to get material runs. I don’t understand the slips alignment here. On fast bouncy strips, expecting a WK to go across to a fine-ish nick is problematic, the moreso when you haven’t got an A-grade ‘keeper (sorry Mr. Smith, but it’s true).
I’ve seen so much footage from down-under where 1st slip is behind the left/right hip of the ‘keeper. If not, as borne out with Smith & Root, you leave a corridor of high uncertainty which, IMHO, has cost 2 wickets so far.
The more I watch England men’s team play, the more I wonder why they ignore ‘basic cricket disciplines’ across all facets of the game. Bewildering.
