So Pakistan won’t play India and Bangladesh have already withdrawn from the tournament because they wanted to play their fixtures only in Sri Lanka and not India. At least they decided to step away. Pakistan appear to want to forfeit a match but still remain in the competition.
Judging by another article I’ve read, there is no separation between the P-word and sport with these 3 nations, and ‘temperatures’ remain high between them, such that Sri Lanka isn’t seen as a tenable option – which begs would Dubai suffice? Whichever way, the whole thing is a mess, and obviously begs the question of what would happen if the teams were scheduled to meet later in the tournament?
England captain Harry Brook: "That was awesome and one of the most fun wins I’ve been part of. The way the lads kept fighting was awesome. We have shown we can adapt to different surfaces and tonight was difficult but the way Sam Curran batted was brilliant. Then the way the spinners bowled 17 overs was awesome.
“The World Cup is going to be co-hosted here and when we get the opportunity to play here we can carry that experience over. It’s been an awesome tour and hopefully we’ll come back to Sri Lanka a few more times.”
Brendan McCullum has given a long interview. Amongst other things he complains about the criticism the Ashes team received and also said that Harry Brook ‘wears his intelligence lightly’. Best laugh I have had for days.
Changing the subject: on a podcast about Kim Philby, his friend Tim Milne said of him that they enjoyed cricket at school and university; however, Tim wanted to say that Kim was a good third man, but actually he was an excellent deep extra cover.
