Archer plays for me. The W Indies batsmen look uncertain against bounce. Archer, Broad and Anderson (or Woakes) is a nice balanced pace attack. Like with Dom Bess it is easy to forget how few first class matches Archer has played and I would want him on the pitch not just in the nets.

Are we getting any play today.

Forecast good today, mixed thereafter.

Wicket at the end of the first over: Sibley plumb.
The atmospherics could be critical if the test runs over the full term.

Sibley gets a duck. Cricket’s ability as ever to bite you on the bum just when you feel in form!

I am liking the England team, dropping Crawley for the extra seamer. More responsibility for Pope a good thing although Root hates no 3 and us now batting in the second over. Stokes probably unable to bowl, Crawley will be back when that changed I am sure. Archer, Woakes, Anderson, Broad potentially very tasty.

Shane Joseph is missing but will be interesting to see thus W Indies spinner. Not a classic elite sport physique for sure but they obviously rate him.

Yorkshire and Lancashire are playing a 2 day friendly match today and tomorrow, as a YCCC member I’ve been given access to a stream of the game. Seems odd to do it at the same time as the Test.

May have better weather on your side of the Pennines?

Yorkshire v Lancashire friendly?

We do live in strange times

I’ve just seen his FC stats on the screen, impressive, strike rate under 50!, average under 26, nearly 5 wickets a match in 63 games. Looking forward to seeing him get a bowl.

Might be sooner rather than later as Gabriel has pulled up!

Grey here and clearing. There would have been a lot of swing at 11 this morning. I’m actually half way between Old Trafford and Headingley (on the civilised White Rose side of the border), so the weather is a hybrid of the two.
Very skilled bowling from the WI here, Holder is really keeping it tight.

Just had a look at Rahkeem Cornwall, jeez he’s a big bugger, shape & weight apart, 2m tall spinners are a rarity. He doesn’t hang about with the over rate either.

I remember when Sulieman Benn was in the WI side, having grown up with Garner and then Ambrose bowling, I found it almost impossible to realise that a 2m tall WI bowler wasn’t bowling toe crushing yorkers.
Cornwall’s body shape is very different, so I don’t get the cognitive dissonance.

Good day for England by the close thanks to some controlled batting by Pope and Buttler. Winning the toss seems to be an issue for both sides; Holder chooses to bat first with two spinners and a pace attack that could surely have used a bit more rest on a ground where no team has ever won after inserting the opposition. Pitch was pretty benign, and less turn on day one than last week.

Poor forecast today, also Monday unfortunately. This has been a good series so hope it changes.

When you say poor, are we going to get some play today.

Forecast is for clouds and little or no rain. Fingers crossed.

Good to Broad getting runs.
Pity Pope could not move on.
