Cyrus + Naim

Good evening

I’m thinking of resurrecting my CD collection for use with my Superuniti.

I have been offered the chance to acquire a Cyrus CDt transport, for a modest outlay - just wondering whether anyone has experience of using this transport with any form of Naim DAC in recent years?

It’s not a scenario where I can try before buying!

This might help:

thanks Tony

I think this is an even older iteration………..

I have Exposure amp and use a Cyrus Cdi xr with power supply and I like it.

thank you

I’d think twice

The cyrus cdt is an extremely good very reliable transport winning many awards over 10 years with What hifi. Cyrus, then brought out the xr range a few years ago offering a CDT-XR transport and cdi-XR integrated player. The CDT-XR is the better one, however, your post is enquiring about the earlier CDT. From personal experience mine was a stella player going through a naim system. Over time I moved over to cyrus consisting of 6 units with the CDT-XR being the main player. To sum up the earlier CDT is a stonking player to have in your system

thank you, really appreciate the detailed response. that’s all very helpful and encouraging.

David

Thanks. Do you mind me asking why - is it a specific concern you would have, or just generally a concern re purchasing an older machine?

Its a well known fact, earlier Cyrus CD players/transport had reliable issues, sure you can find information regarding this. Have they solved all those problems ?

Personally I’d think twice.

fair enough thank you

If I was in your shoes I would probably just get one of those inexpensive Audiolab transports (I think they make three at various price points) and see if I enjoyed my current CD collection and/or wanted to expand it in the future. I was in a similar position a few years back when my old Meridian CD player became unreliable. I bought an Audiolab transport to resurrect my old collection of around 500 CDs. What I found is that it was great to be able to listen to out of print albums and music that is currently unavailable through other methods but streaming/downloading turned out to be the main way I listen to digital recordings because it is just a more convenient option when the music is available in digital form.
