6 volts into will be too much as it was for the 500dr.
It also looks like the new 350’s are a different animal to the older classic range, but obviously you have the kit to try it right now, and so in a better place to judge.
But as i have said a few times, if i only had one source, and that was a dCS dac, then i would 100% run it direct into an amp that worked well with it.
It makes more sense to do it like this as you will get to hear how the dac should sound, you can invest the extra money from not having to buy a pre amp into say a better amp, speakers, etc.
But really all you can do is try for yourself as the reality is, there’s no one fix.
Cheers dunc
@tt33 how’s the DD?
I needed to postpone the DD audition as I was tied up the whole afternoon. The dealer can only do Saturdays after lunch.
It’s so much easier to audition when you get the stuff to have it at home for a couple of days at least and test when time permits.
This dealer doesn’t do that and always comes for half a day.
It is what it is, planning to have it in a few weeks.
100%. It just makes more sense like that but need to confirm I’m not losing anything going direct.
Ah .. ok.. take your time , no worries , so you have only. A few hours for demo of the DD.

Yeah unfortunately
Correct.
But it could be that the new 350’s aren’t a good match for going direct for whatever reason, but i can’t see why that would be, as my 500dr certainly liked it.
I was testing today, and I don’t think I’m losing anything when going direct. In fact, I’m gaining in transparency, dynamics and overall presentation.
The only thing I’m trying to nail down is the best output voltage. To my ears, 0.6V feels the most natural, 6V is second best, and 2V the worst. It’s interesting that all three options work with my amps, with the usual listening levels at -30, -20 and -10dB respectively. -10dB is the 0.6V.
I also like how you can change the filters on the fly according to your preference or music style. Very nice feature.
I’m closer to pulling the trigger and ditching 3 boxes for Rossini. I only need to agree on a trade-in and maybe get this demo unit if possible. That could open some options for the clock as well. Fingers crossed.

It was favourable to try and keep as close to 0.0 db as you can, because the lower you go in the - can result in loss of quality.
But these day’s dCS say that you have to go a long way into the - for it to even start effecting sound quality. But even so getting the right output voltage to suit the amp and volume you want is key.
But again adding the clock will bring inpovement and using funds from pre amp is a good way to go
I am at 0 db as adviced by dCS.
And I read I think , in the manual that 6V for direct power amp.
Good that the Rossini perform well for you ![]()
Yeah, that’s how the manual says.
I’m also reading contradictory information on the other site. Some say higher voltage delivers better SNR and that this is the most important part obviously if the volume is not under -30/-40dB where it starts losing dynamic range.
Others say the most important part is to stay closest to unity gain which is 0dB and that output voltage matters less.
@naimophile @Dunc what is the final ruling on this?
Ya, I read too that to power amp , 6 V the way to go. However, it depends on system and also your listening preference.
I tried on 6V , it’s louder , but not as clean . So from there I use 2 V .
My Rossini default was at 6 V when I open it up .
@tt33 you striking a deal for the Rossini ?
I might yeah if the trade-in value would be acceptable.
Today I’m also getting a Rockna Wavedream Reference DAC to try out.
Demo the DD before making any decision. Cos DD is what you are after
first
But who knows , in the end , u ended up w a dac ![]()
What is DD?
Dan D’Agostino
Yeah ![]()
Have the Progression Integrated. Driving a pair of Wilson Audio Sasha V. Drives these with ease.
Great detail throughout . Excellent sound stage. Replaced my 552 / 300. A big step up. Sources are Linn LP12- 50 and Naim ND 555 DAC / Streamer plus a pair of 555 PSU.
I recommend Progression Integrated
Oh, I shouldn’t have read that. LoL.
