D'Agostino Progression Integrated vs Gryphon Diablo 333 vs Naim 332/300/350

A mid-level integrated from D’Agostino sounding better than TOTR pre/power albeit an older model.

Now I’m curious about the Momentum integrated.

Thanks for your input here Mike

Entry level DD even?

Have been lucky enough to have heard the latest Momentum Integrated. Heard driving the latest Wilson Alexis V speakers.
Music reproduction is unbelievably good. However the Momentum is about $130,000.00 New Zealand dollars. So can only dream.
Good news. Dan D’Agostino has now released the ‘entry level ‘ Pendulum Integrated Amplifier.

How do you connect the ND555 to the Progression Mike? Just read a review, looks like a great option indeed.

With the top tier c2 remote control , only in momentum you get this , now in entry level , you get it

Maybe the Wilson Sasha needs more power than 300 dr?
But maybe the Progression is just better and 30% less expensive vs 552/300.
I find the Progression to be one of the nicest hifi item available and for me, much nicer than other Dagostino products with their bling bling look.

I had the 552/300 driving my Sabrina X. I found this a great combination. The 552/300DR is fantastic. I thought about replacing the 300DR with the 500DR but the cost of the 500DR in New Zealand was prohibitive. Unfortunately NZ is a relatively small market and I thought the chance of picking up a preloved 500DR in fairly new condition would have been small.
Originally had the 552/300DR driving the Sasha V and they did sound very good. Then I heard with Progression which were fantastic. The Sasha’s draw a fair amount of current. Impedance 4 ohms/ minimum 2.36 ohms @ 82H which the Progression handles with ease. Produces 200 watts into 8 ohms and 400 into 4 ohms.
Also as you say the Progression has a more minimalist appearance compared to the higher end D’Agostinos

I checked the prices. The D’Agostino Progression’s MSRP at £25,568 is higher than the Gryphon Diablo 333 (£24,500). Interesting. I wonder how do they compare. One thing is for sure though, the Progression wins on practicality.

Progression (26kg)
Diablo 333 (51kg)

Sasha’s are 91 dB @ 1W @ 1 meter @1 kHz.

I prefer the look of the Progression.
I see that with the Diablo 333 the 333 indicates 333 watts per channel into 8 ohms. The output doubles as the resistance halves!
The transformer alone ways 17.5kg. No wonder it weighs double the Progression.
This amplifier receives good reviews. Would be interesting if anyone has done a comparison between the Diablo and D’Agostino

I settled with a used Diablo 300 about 4 months ago as a new 333 although desirable is too much money for me. However, one can always dream. I agree the Diablo is not very pretty, and it’s heavy.

Yes, it is. I grabbed a lovely newish 552 a while back :+1:, with a 300. I’m won’t be going 500 though. This will see me through to if/when I downsize (some time away I think).

So, funny thing, I traded in Linn Selekt for Rockna Wavedream Signature DAC balanced anniversary red edition. :joy:

Rockna literally blew me away! This R2R is something else I tell you.
Between dCS and Rockna, it was an easy choice. Rockna sound is what I wanted. My friends and family all agree it is something else.

I’m now hunting for a network transport that has i2s out and better clock than Rockna. Any suggestions?

DD demo coming in a couple of weeks.

Maybe the just released modular Innuos Stream series that can be boosted with their external PS LPS1?

Good shout thanks. It does have a i2s module, will have a look.

Edit
Only Stream 3 has an optional i2s module and it’s 1700euro on top. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I shall check out this brand and go listen to it .

For my ears, and for my wife and a couple of friends, it beats it. It is a different presentation. It is an R2R which is extremely precise, but very musical at the same time. One of my audiophile friends never liked the sound of my system as he loves a smooth R2R warmness. I don’t like that too much. Yesterday when he listened, he said this is absolutely incredible sounding, he couldn’t stop playing music and increasing the volume.
It is full but not overly warm, very praty but not too analytical. Just the right balance, which sounds brilliant to my ears.

Rockna founder worked on MSB DAC modules before starting his company. Guys are really knowledgeable.

If you can get it, try Wavedream Reference Signature. It’s their top DAC, with a streaming section as well. My Signature is DAC only.
