Dan's thread

Is this Guildford hospital the Royal Surrey Dan? That’s about a mile from where we live.

Yes. That is where liver resection is being done!

It’s a top place. I hope it all goes well for you.

Thanks David. Hopefully I will be out on saturday. Got my lift booked with my plumber friend but see what happens. These things are never straightforward!

Good luck, Dan.
You are an inspiration.

Completely understandable!

In the absence of anything useful that I can do, will light a candle for you on Friday, dear boy.

Much strength,

Mark

How are you doing Pete?

Not bad actually, I do run out of energy early afternoon and struggle to sleep without waking every 4 hours. But nothing that’s not expected, miss being able to hug my grandkids though.

Thanks for asking. :+1:

Let’s see what happens. In my experience things don’t always go as planned!

If in and out that fast, they are presumably doing “Minimally Invasive Surgery” which is something of a speciality there. I saw from a recent press release that they have just taken delivery of another De Vinci robot, which are very expensive and totally amazing and maybe they will use one for your op?

It’s traditional key hole surgery to remove 10% of the liver. The lung op will be robotic surgery/keyhole surgery but stay in hospital will be a bit longer for that one.

These things start off as one thing and can quickly become another!

They are used for prostate surgery and were being introduced for kidney and other precision procedures seven years ago.

Very best of luck for Friday Dan, I will have a wee dram tonight for you and everyone else suffering ill health at this time. Good health to everyone, cheers.

Yes prostate surgery and urology more generally are the main use.

When I had my last op was meant to be a 4 inch scar. Ended up being 9 inch scar. They said I’d be in hospital a few days, was in there 2 weeks and they were looking at feeding me through my neck due to lack of nutrition. Everything changed. So let’s see what happens. The plan changes sometimes!
