Dark deposit on my Kleos

My Lyra Kleos. A guy asked for a zoom on it.
There’s like a dark deposit.
Is it normal ? Have I to try to clean that ?

That depends.

Do you have any idea what he intends using it for.

Should be fine. Cantilever looks good. It looks like dirt and superficial. Won’t affect playing of records.

I wouldn’t buy it. If your records flung poo on the front of it then maybe the internals have crap too.

My two Lyra are spotless, and one of them has 1500+ hrs. of use.

Just use care with a stylus cleaning-fluid brush and that dust on the white plastic can be gently removed. The stylus itself looks fine ( as far as seeing it like that). Could have a blob on the tip, maybe?

But, I’m not as good as some (take a bow @JosquinDesPrez!) in keeping my records absolutely clean…must try harder, obviously

Yeah, I am truly obsessed when it comes to record and stylus care. But my attention to it has paid off.

Depends what this deposit is. Is it something that has got onto it from the record surfaces or is it deposits of some sort from the atmosphere? If you keep your records clean then probably not from them. On the other hand if you play lots of used second hand dirty records then that could explain it. As @JosquinDesPrez points out, the real concern is whether the internals have also been contaminated, regardless of whether or not the superficial marks will easily clean off. I have to say that because of this there is no way I would buy it. But then not everyone is as fussy as I am. We haven’t had vinyl for decades, but there’s no way I would load a dirty or marked CD into our CD transport. It never fails to amaze me however how unconcerned some people are about things like this even when using very expensive equipment.

It looks to me as if it’s all coated in black gunge. Or should it look like that?

He is only a potential buyer of the cartridge. But this black deposit may have stopped him.

I removed the dust, so no problem. It was air dust.

You should take advantage of this opportunity to clean the dust everywhere. :innocent:

I am waiting for you :face_with_tongue::joy:

Hopefully some were wrong. I got hot. Ouf!

Yeah, I knew it would be fine. I have same on my Kandid. I don’t fiddle with it. I clean the records but still get that black dust. It looks mint now.

So good to be right!

Cleaning is where most accidents happen! Especially with carts.

When I clean the dust, I put the cap back on the cell so there are no accidents.
But surely this cell does not come with a cap.

What are you replacing it with?

I would keep your lovely turntable and cart. You may regret the sell of it.

Just saying. Have a think and give things time and space. Even if you only use it once a month.

I go through phases where I don’t play LP12 for 2 weeks. But then I will listen to it all day. I wouldn’t sell it. I bought it about 8 years ago. But every part has been replaced. For me it represents a huge journey.

So if you sell your turntable you may get some money for it. But to buy again will cost alot more.
