Display ndx2

Hi everyone, I installed the new firmware (3.11.0 / 5662) on my ndx2 and immediately noticed a problem. When I send a song via tidal connect or qobuz connect or spotify connect (even from the naim app) the display remains permanently off while scrolling from one track to another. With the old firmware, even if the display was deactivated from the naim app, every time I changed tracks it would turn on to show the cover and after a while it would turn off. I use an iPhone 14 Pro to connect. Anyone with the same problem?

Hi @Niko, I’ve just tested and reproduced this exactly as described.
Note I recall someone requesting this behaviour, so it may just be Naim responding. Think it was on the basis that if you want to turn it off, that it stays off - track information, etc. is available in the app …

Hi @Protegimus Naim I wrote to Naim explaining the problem and they told me that it does not depend on the firmware but it could be an iPhone/router interface problem.. they suggest that I try to connect to tidal with an android phone and through another internet network to check if the problem repeats itself or not. If it happens again they tell me to send ndx2 for assistance.

That’s really odd @Niko - let’s see if anyone else confirms the same behaviour.

The only recent change was the firmware update to 3.11.0 (5562).

@IainO - hope you don’t mind me taking the liberty of tagging you, if still have the NDX2, would you mind testing this please?

I have an NDX2 so I just tested a few things

I normally have the screen on, so I can’t confirm if this observed behaviour is different to past behaviour.

When I change tracks within a given source (Qobuz Connect, Qobuz in Naim App, Streaming Innuos CD rips), no track info shows on the screen. It stays dark.

However, when I switch between the sources above (and radio too), it DOES show track info, then after a few seconds it shows album art, then after a few more seconds it goes dark and stays that way until I change source.

Same here display remains dark when changing tracks or artists when using Qobuz, when the display is on still no change just album art remains when changing tracks.

@Entilzha Exactly the same thing that happens to me, I don’t understand why naim says that all this is not “normal” suggesting that I connect ndx2 to a different network, starting the app from an Android phone. Always naim tells me that if even with these conditions the problem occurs I should send ndx2 for assistance because no one has complained about this problem so according to them it does not depend on the new update

It now seems very likely that this is a change in behaviour that support weren’t aware of.

@Protegimus @Mark68 Please also make the report by email to naim, so that he can solve the problem since apparently they are not aware of it!! :folded_hands:t2:

Yes we still have our NDX2 for now, so I’ve just tried Tidal Connect, “My daily discovery” playlist.

NDX2 no longer lights up screen on either of track transition, or track skip.

Pretty sure it used to!

TBH had not noticed this, usually playlists are an office thing.

Lounge listening tends to be more album based where screen isn’t important, hence why I had not noticed this behaviour.

There’s always the “now playing” button on the remote to find out what’s on.

@IainO Would you also be able to send an email to Naim? I’m not aware of the problem and they told me that it’s a problem that only I find…
