End of my tether

Mike - I might be wrong but I would have thought that if you have the transit bolts sending back for a service is no problem.

Regards,

Lindsay

Definitely got the transit bolt.

Could you borrow another CDX2 and see if it sounds better than your own?

May I ask which Naim amps were compared to the INT-60. How does it sound next to a 282 or higher level Naim.

Ooh a hijack.

Back atcha. Bought my first album in about 4 months today. Might even play it tomorrow. Not optimistic. Dealer still has my XPS2.

Back on topic.

Mike, what’s the current situation regarding the kit that you left with your retailer and also the direction in which you are contemplating moving forwards ?

XPS2 still with dealer. Shop not open as yet although business being done. Work in lockdown has been my focus four 11 weeks now. However, it has enabled some saving and with a small but tidy sum heading my way in the next couple of weeks I’m contemplating an Innuos Zenith and interim DAC to start me on my journey to an NDX2.

Sigh. NOLA style thunder storm just as I was about to play my first music in 3 months. All powered down. The universe is sending me a message.

Hang in there Mike, nearly there!

Does it really matter?

It doesn’t matter now as I’ve dropped the plan of trying the Pass Labs.

How are we doing? Have you resolved the problem?

Yes, we are waiting to hear

Very kind of you to ask.

Nothing much to report. XPS2 and Burndy still with dealer who has only partially reopened. I’ll have to drop him an email I guess as my working days currently offer zero opportunity for contact.

Still not played the CD. Totally lacking any motivation. Wife’s new car doesn’t even have a CDP. Pfft. Made a trip in the general direction of the dealer but the intent was solely to see my elderly parents after 7 months. Took the cd to listen to and then ended up putting Tidal on in the car.

In the meantime the system itself with the TV as source is just tremendous. No doubt the 202 benefitted hugely from it’s trip to Class A. The soundstage restoration has been extraordinary. Feels like I’ve gone from mono to stereo.

The only remaining conclusions are XPS2, Burndy or the CDX2 itself with my money on the latter. Once things are easier I’ll pop in to collect and discuss. Figure I’ve little to lose putting in an 18 year old CDP for repair in the sense that lockdown and working from home has been (at least thus far) most advantageous financially. Enough money to buy an Innuos Zenith M3 is in place and already saving for an NDX2 abs nearly halfway there.

Maybe someone mentioned this already, but I imagine you have a DVD or Blu-ray player why not hook it up as a replacement for your old CD player and see how it sounds?

Yes, done long ago. Not of sufficient quality to demonstrate anything but at this stage it can only be CDP, XPS or Burndy.

Lockdown is, for the time being, being extraordinarily kind to me financially. Enough in the bank now to get an Innuos Zenith Mark 3 and the Phoenix USB reclocker. On my way towards an NDX2 but only just on my way. Hoping I’ll have enough left over to put the CDX2 in for a service somewhere and maybe, way down the line, get the XPS2 for an XPS DR.
