I remember hearing of gig where it was only the Dead and the Allman Brother on the bill
and they played for 9 hours combined!
Billy Connolly - Solo Concert - The Crucifixion (16:04). It would have been priceless to have been in for that show.
Swans have numerous long tracks but The Apostate is my favorite. Twenty three minutes of seering {!} intensity.
100% in agreement with you. I find something about it very pleasing to my brain. It could be how much I listened to it during my uni years . . .
Not sure it is still available but here is a photo of the back cover:
Update:
The cd box set may not be easily found but I believe it can be streamed. It is definitely available on Spotify.
‘Kugelblitz’ by Brand X. For me, this is 11 mins of top quality fusion. Originally from a session recorded at the BBC in February 1976. Available most readily these days on the ‘Nuclear Burn’ box set.
Misty, from 50 Words for Snow. Lake Tahoe, which is also long enough to qualify, seems to get more attention but I prefer this song.
Cheers,
Ian
two tracks from
Jeremy and the Lemon Clocks, "Side by Side’ on Fruits De Mer Records, 2023
Green Tambourine ( Lemon Pipers) 18.07 mins
Spirit In The Sky (Norman Greenbaum) 24.17
both start of faithful and then develop into superb guitar workouts, Green Tambourine morphs into a Yes number but with them singing green tambourine over it !!! and it works

there is also a superb version, recorded only a short time after Greasy Truckers on the Man at the BBC box set-a really worthwhile purchase
Not to forget the version of C’mon from the live sides of Back to the Future.
Man were always worthwhile seeing live, at B’Ham uni they headlined 2 allnighters 73 and 74 along with Nektar, great nights

Is that the 6CD “Life on the Road’ version from Cherry Red Records (coz if so, it’s going on the list
)
My favourite is Iron Butterfly-“In a Gadda da Vida”
The Köln Concert, Part 1 by Keith jarret . 26 minutes of improvisation of the highest order.
Jarrets has never matched this solo piano record. Several of his solo piano records come close, but this is pure enjoyment, if you take the time to listen carefully.
A milestone recording born out of a logistical disaster. He should have played another piano, that did not arrive at the theatre. He used the theatres piano that was used for rehearsals.
yes it is
so much to enjoy in the box including on one of the DVD’s a schools broadcast of Man recording a track from Back to the Future
sound quality is very good

The Grand Wazoo by Frank Zappa. Epic!
“The Dead Flag Blues” from Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
Great track, haunting intro.
The car’s on fire and there’s no driver at the wheel…
Been listening on Yootoob. Yep, definitely now on the “buy list” ![]()
“Long Strange Golden Road” (2015) by the Waterboys. Mike Scott and a bunch of high quality Nashville musicians really let rip in this 10:23 long tale of love and woe.
would also recommend a good read on Man
Deke Leonard “Rhinos, Winos & Lunatics, The legend of man a rockn’roll band”
It his account of life in Man, very funny, some great stories.
The second in a series of books about his life in music
first volume is “Maybe I Should’ve Stayed In Bed?: The Flip Side Of The Rock’n’Roll Dream” covering pre-Man and the third volume is “Maximum Darkness: Man On The Road To Nowhere” covering his solo career and the reformation of Man in the 80’s.

I’ve got the BBC stuff, and Reading 83, but have bitten the bullet to get the other bits. Have to say though, that my current favourite is the “official bootleg” (oxymoron if ever I heard one) from Glastonbury (90 something- hesitate to name a year and of course I can’t find the bloody thing). Deke’s lengthy workout intro to Ride and the View is worth the price of admission by itself. Guessing '98 but could be wrong. Tight as a camel’s arse in a sandstorm.
