Ethernet cables - YOUR LISTENING Shooutout Summary

I don’t..

I put the Smoothlan before my Ansuz D2 Powerswitch now and it sounds constrained and lacks flow compared to without it. Too smooth for my taste in that position. It takes away the crispiness on snare drums and saxophones for example. I remember this effect from the first time I put it into my system but didn’t reflect on it on my last AB test when having it between switch and streamer. Need to evaluate it more in front of my streamer now to get to a decision point. I sure don’t want to loose the crispiness and nerve in my system that makes it sound so alive and real.

Had to see what all the hype was about have a Shunyata Sigma on the way to try in place of my current Neotech Neet 1008.

This will be interesting as there was a Neotech battle some time ago. Love to hear your thoughts - it will be different. Very vinyl like

It will be an interesting musical adjustment as I can’t think of two cables that are the polar opposite of one another!

I have been playing with this their cable and filter for the last month or so - not yet on the market I believe. It’s really annoyed me at one level because it is soooo subtle that the impact it has isnt immediate but take it out and I feel something is missing. Damn it!

You will get a much better performance with a Network Acoustics ENO2.

I lost confidence in their products since it never worked with my NDS (ENO1)

I’m not so sure the Smoothlan is an improvement in my Ansuz D2 Powerswitch + Ansuz D2 Ethernet system. It’s doing things but not sure for the better.

A lot has been improved since the very first generation of their ENO launch - which was also pioneering work for the industry back then. The ENO2 is now the 3rd generation and and transformed every system I or friends tried it with.
You can also write to them, they are very responsive and helpful, about specific experiences for your individual system.

It would be interesting to see an internal photograph of it as the original ENO was not that inspiring.

They still refer to the Eno2 on their website, what were the other two models called?

DG…

Well the picture that was around was from a prototype of the very first ENO. In the meantime there has been the Muon Pro and now the ENO2 which achieves about 80-90% of the Muon Pro for considerably less money.

Speaking of speaker cables… The KS-1 will remain side by side with the Naca5 so I can switch when I feel like it, too good to resell :innocent:

Well I’ve had the Sigma installed for several days now, only had a couple listens but currently not all that impressed with it. The changes in sound have been far smaller then I anticipated based on reading comments . Balance is a bit more laid back & seems like it lost some bottom end but tightened it up a bit. Don’t find it much more “analog” sounding vs the previous configuration. Not really noticing much for additional details or blacker background. Timbre may have a slight improvement but again, nothing earth shattering. It seems to have lost some of that magic/sparkle I previously had. So will need to do further listening to make a decision.

I’m wondering what kind of differences are at play for the different results. My network is very basic, only “audiophile” item is a Stackaudio SmoothLAN, the connection to the house is fiber, not sure if that has any impact on noise? My DAC is a Sonnet Digital NOS R2R DAC, & is a very analog sounding DAC to start with. Not sure if the Sigma combined with the SmoothLAN has just rounded things off too much.

It probably needs at least a week of constant streaming to come on song.

What did it replace?

I would not use the SmoothLAN with it. Too many filters in series with each other, and the Sigma is itself a filter, not just a cable.

It was a pre loved cable, not new, so not sure about run in but I was sort of thinking I was noticing a little more of that missing “magic” towards the end of my second listening session so maybe it still needs so time even when second hand.

After listening, that’s initially my thoughts as well. Though my thoughts have then been removing the SmoothLAN may bring back some areas I feel are lacking but will the performance be that much better vs the previous combo. VFM SmoothLAN/Neet 1008 combo new here ~$800, Sigma on its own second hand $1500 or not sure what its new price was but new Sigma X is $2600.

I know some have said the SmoothLan has rolled a bit too much off the top for them so I’m interested in hearing how the new regenerator sounds in comparison, I get the impression it might not be as “soft” sounding from the comments I have seen.

The idea was that the KS-1 would replace the Naca5 to get a simpler and more stylish cable routing, but ended up with double speaker cables lying freely across the floor :smiling_face_with_sunglasses::rofl:

I bought the KS-1 for a NSS333 NAC252 NC250 based system. I think it is great. Detailed without being fatiguing.

Yes, both have their strengths, which is why I kept both.
