Ethernet cables - YOUR LISTENING Shooutout Summary

I remember back in the 90s , I was making some changes to my system and was demoing some Ruark Icon loudspeakers in a gorgeous Cherry veneer.

The dealer was using some SonicLink Silver Aero S130x2 Biwire Speaker Cable and it sounded good..

I had taken with me my existing loudspeaker cable with me, as I was trying to keep the cost down, The SKYTRACK Hybrid to test and swapped them over.

God, it was awful, it sounded like someone had covered the loudspeakers with eight wet ex-army grey blankets. It was amazing the difference could make.

Suffice it to say, I got the SonicLink loudspeaker cable as well as the Icons.

In the past I owned the following:

Cat 6A cable > EE1 > Chord C Stream > EE8 > Chord Signature > EE1 > Chord Sarum T > NDX2

I decided to simplify my system and got rid of the whole lot and I can honestly say I hardly noticed any difference when simply having the Cat 6A plugged into the NDX2.

I’ve therefore been a doubter about the improvement switches and ethernet cables can make for quite some time. However, recently I purchased a second hand Ansuz X-TC switch and a couple of the their X2 ethernet cables to feed my Roon Nucleus and Linn Selekt. I am now a complete convert. These are their ‘entry’ level cables and they have driven a huge improvement to my system with a lot more blackness, presence and rhythm to the music.

As mentioned in another thread, I’ll be able to provide my feedback on the Shunyata Gamma Ethernet cable next week. If it’s a positive result, it will replace the final leg of my bjc cat6a (which I suppose was always on borrowed time).

I have just seen an Ethernet cable for sale for a mind blowing £576

Staggering in many ways. Can anyone explain this? I know cables topics provoke a lot of heated discussion but this must be the ultimate in snake oil.

Nowhere near…

An “Ethernet” cable for more than $5,000 is the record holder so far.

£576 is cheap in the world of boutique ethernet cables. Yes it’s a mad mad world.
It may or may not actually be ethernet in compliance terms, some construct cables that are not twisted pairs but do the same job, they circumvent the ‘ethernet’ term by calling them streaming cables. These can sell at £2500 +++

Absolute madness but people can spend their money as they want and they do on these cables!

Reiki Audio JundoStream Reference network cable “from £3250” (to £4650).
Only available up to 2m (does it not transmit well enough for successful Ethernet connection beyond that?)

Looking at that cable as a Network engineer it makes me cringe.

Fantastic!!

I’ve tried some expensive cables, all of which sound different, but also unrealistic (in sonic terms). I use a Chord C-Stream now, cheap and the most natural sounding that I have ever heard.

I have read on this forum elsewhere that there is no significant improvement on the Chord-C cables until you get into their top level cables

Just remember one thing, as this debate will no doubt take off, no one but no one is forced to buy any hifi component no matter the price.

You can see the specs of the Reiki.

As @Xanthe will very probably put into question these specs, I will open a pop corn box in the meantime.

@Richard.Dane, you may need to step in here, if it kicks off!
:bomb:

I’ve seen it all now.

Be sure to take advantage of the speaker cable trestle bundle deal!

I don’t really know why these threads are even started to be honest. It’s not like there is an absence of existing threads to trawl through.
Also, they are conclusionless.
