Ethernet Switch and Cables Mania

:small_blue_diamond:@Innocent_Bystander,ā€¦cadre,.I donā€™t understand this word.?

Otherwise,.I installed dedicated mains to my music-system back in 1985/1986.
ā€¢Iā€™ve always had L-N-E in my music-system.

I installed my dedicated mains together with the former distributor for Naim/Linn.

:small_orange_diamond:Ps: Most of my hifi-friends did this a few years later.

That doesnā€™t sound right to me. Even though Iā€™m no great fan of the Cinnamon I have found it to be substantially better than many of the generic Cat 5e cables I have triedā€¦

Cadre, according to the Cambridge English Dictionary is

a small group of trained people who form the basic unit of a military, political, or business organization

Cadre is Administrator

I found the Cinnamon to be the worst of all the streaming cables I tried
[/quote]

I have not found this ā€¦ mine is 8m long and is quite rich sounding with good detail and timing a really good balanceā€¦pretty much as DB describesā€¦

Completely misplaced use of the word in this threads context, maybe better an alternative is a group of activists in a communist or other revolutionary organization.

Iā€™ve learned that people here have varied tastes in musical presentation. I donā€™t tend to favor the the presentation of the boutique cables discussed here and I also note there are a lot going on the systems people have here compared to my simple set up.

Interesting how peoplesā€™ experiences in this area varyā€¦probably best to just use what suits the complexity, of each of our situations, the bestā€¦I certainly would not describe Cinnamon the way you do. Perhaps itā€™s because my ā€˜stuffā€™ is from a different manufacturer, using a different earthing topography.

I deliberately avoided that option to avoid causing a catastrophic upset ā€¦

Cheers

excellent track!

We have a huge grab box of Legos to get creative with. They tired of the sitting on the shelf model routine and have a lot more fun just getting creative. So I had plenty of options to choose from. Thanks for thinking of them!

Pretty much my experience to. It can sound more detailed at the get go, more ā€˜hifiā€™ so to speak but then quickly gets fatiguing.BJC 6 and BJC 6a was a revelation for me as well (and the Ghent 6A Belden catsnake).

And also used for groups of people with specialist training or in the same profession, which is along the lines I meant when I used the word. I hope this explains, @Peder

Shielding, certainly will significantly limit the EM field leaning or entering the twisted pairsā€¦ however that has probably marginal effects on how a cable ā€˜soundsā€™.
A shield will capacitively couple between the twisted pair(s) and ground, this will affect the characteristics of the cable.
Also an induced current will flow in the shield and this in itself will have peaks and nulls every quarter wavelengthā€¦ so in itself may radiate and not necessarily sink any induced current.

Unlike some common myths, shields donā€™t magically stop electromagnetic energy and make it disappearā€¦ what they do is catch (couple) it and then conduct it.

But Simon, most of the manufacturers of expensive cables clearly state that the screens of their cables stop electromagnetic interference. As we know that where there is motion there is energy, and that energy cannot be destroyed (only changed into lower grade forms), therefore they must be using magic!

How often do you unplug/plug your Powerlines?

Iā€™d suggest listening for the loss of the right sound and then doing it. Hopefully it may settle after a while at every 1-2 months. Different things may have different needs though.
