Euro 2024

Got a soft spot for Uruguay, given that they have Marcelo Bielsa as their manager, one of football’s shrewdest tacticians, and an honourable person too.

Still greatly revered for his time spent at Elland Road.

I see Marsch’s Canadians are still in the competition? Presumably Argentina will see them off in the semis. Come on Uruguay.

It will be a tough game for Canada thats for sure but there is always a chance.

What has been interesting to watch is the changing mindset of the Canadian team over the past couple of years. Previously they have just been happy to make it to a competition, the last World Cup was a good example. They very disappointingly lost all three group games and since then something changed. Making the CopaAmerica finals for the first time, they set themselves the goal of getting out of the group (Argentina, Peru and Chile). No longer were they just happy to make up the numbers.

After losing to Argentina (in a pretty decent game) they showed some real grit and determination to get out of the group and then to beat Venezuala in the 1/4s was a big step forward.

Jesse Marsch has definitely got them believing that they deserve to be there. Looking forward to the semi final

Marsch got a bit of new manager bounce with us, LUFC, then he was truly awful. Perhaps international football suits him? The contrast with Bielsa was stark.

The Rapier v the Cutlass. En garde :face_with_peeking_eye:

How’s this for coincidence (or whatever higher power of your choice)?

This is a photo from 2007 of Lionel Messi holding a baby. The baby has now grown up into ….Lamine Yamal, 16 yr old winger for Spain and one of, if not the, standout stars of Euro 2024!

Nothing cagey about this one.

No way that’s an ‘own goal’.

There’s a few people out there saying that this is the final and that the England Netherlands game is just a side show.

Have to admit I’m enjoying this game.

Could be from an entertainment point of view. Time will tell.
Cannot fault both Spain :es: and France :fr: for their attitude to this match

The Spanish have started falling to the ground at the slightest touch.
