Interesting analysis in the press this morning regarding statistical performance gleaned from the 2 weeks of data.

1 - The fastest times by each team
Ferrari (Vettel) 1:16.221
Mercedes (Hamilton) 1:16.224
Renault (Hulkenberg) 1:16.843
Toro Rosso (Albon) 1:16.882
McLaren (Sainz) 1:16.913
Haas (Grosjean) 1:17.076
Red Bull (Gasly) 1:17.091
Alfa Romeo (Raikkonen) 1:17.239
Racing Point (Stroll) 1:17.556
Williams (Russell)|1:18.130

2 - A more detailed & maybe more indicative analysis has computed tyre compound & fuel load variants to lap & speed data. This shows more of a performance gap than does just the best fast lap times & explains Hamilton’s opinion that Ferrari are half a second faster .
Ferrari - 1.15.720
Mercedes +0.504
Red Bull +0.871
Haas +0.921
Toro Rosso +1.038
Renault +1.123
McLaren +1.195
Alfa +1.395
Racing Point +1.836
Williams +2.41

Roll On Melbourne

It looks like it’s going to be another tough season for Williams. Toro Rosso and Honda are the ones to watch out for, me thinks. Look and learn McLaren.

I’m wondering what the best way to watch F1 this season is. I’ve Virgin Media cable & a smart TV? Can I buy an F1 viewing package? (Not interested in other sports)

Cheers,

G

Edit…It seems not without paying for a Sky box…

I have sky sports in package on Virgin cable…Bet if you call them they’ll give you a deal.

Some sad news from F1 world.

A great loss indeed.

I just read the same. What a shock. Big shoes to fill.

Very sad news indeed

Tragic news, a real foundation stone of F1.

'morning all the F1 fans.
Question for the rest of the season: In UK it’s only Sky who are broadcasting live, Channel 4 are showing highlights after the race.
The question is do we want forum posts about results before the highlights thereby spoiling the highlights race for some. Keep in mind the results are all over the www anyhow. ???

Good point Mike, i think the results are widely touted in the media…Just start posting

OK, just a teaser then.
Mercedes looked to have something more in the free practice sessions than they had in Barcelona testing. The Melbourne paddock rumours where that Ferrari are sandbagging. But seems not, Mercedes have really turned something on since Barcelona, they say there are no modifications & its all about understanding the car better & how to set it up.

I did wonder in Barcelona how far they had the engine turned up…they seemed to spend too much time downplaying their car while admiring Ferarri…mind games i guess.

Reading the various specialist press over the last few days & watching some video clips it looks like the Mercedes is a bit skittish in the handling dept. But they seem to have found the sweet-spot & it must be gratifying as they’ve found the same on both cars, hinting that its well understood.

Let’s hope that’s not a sign of things to come because that’s a huge gap. Mind you, the stats Are against Ham as he has won only one of the last five races he started from pole in Melbourne. Good luck to him and let’s roll.

Those Ferraris were planted in the corners at Barca, not now.

Something’s changed and I can’t help think something outside the rules was maybe spotted by the FIA? It just looks different on the move somehow.

Well done ‘The Winner’, great result.

And without giving anything else away, well done Lewis for not being afraid to look like a complete tw** post race, all to show he’s not lost touch wit de hood, innit though.
