What a classy reply. Love 'Nando. Wish him do better next year.

I didn’t realise DRS closure was only triggered by braking. Because that corner is taken without braking it behoves the driver to shut it manually. Yes, you could say a rookie error but damn dangerous at 180mph. In older times driver would have been badly injured

I’m not sure your first sentence is correct. Perhaps someone else might come along and confirm.

It is also triggered by the lifting of the throttle, which he did on the first flying lap. On the second, he didn’t lift, but he did dab the brake slightly, but not enough to close DRS, according to traces I saw on PlanetF1. Apparently, Jack had been going through that corner flat on the simulator, and none of the engineers thought to mention to him that in the real world, that wasn’t a good idea.

My view is that while it was a rookie error by Jack, there was also a string of failures by the rest of the team. Taking him out of the car for the first practice was not a sensible thing to do. Not reminding him to lift or close DRS before the corner was a team failure. I am sure Peter Bonnington would have been doing this for his rookie Kimi and I expect the other teams would have been for their rookies.

Yawn.

Exactly.

Luckily I only listened to the radio commentary. They had a tough job.

Still think it’s time to revert to single element front and rear wings.

Mind, being saying that for about ten years.

Racing is usually much more entertaining when they have less grip.

What do you mean ‘Yawn’?

Plenty of action. Hamilton overtook Hadjar & …er…

Hehe

When I heard who won, I decided not to watch this race. No point in spoiling a nice Sunday.

Fortunately, I just like motor racing & have never really supported a team or driver so have nothing much against MV.

I just feel he is still a bit immature for his stature on the sport &, like it or not, needs to act more like the fabulous driver & multiple world champion he is.

Vettel had a great sense of fun (pre-Ferrari days) but was still able act with the required maturity/responsibility as a senior driver when the situation/topic demanded.

Having said that, with or without Verstappen, you didn’t miss anything.

And swap out carbon discs for metal to increase braking distances.

I think Albon summed the race up well by saying for him it was a bit boring but as he was in the points he liked boring.

Russell commented that racing on a resurfaced track would normally be improved if the tyres chosen were softer and wore more, which would mean that 2 pit stops would be needed.

Whilst it wasn’t very interesting to watch, Max drove a great race to get the win after one of the all-time great qualifying laps, that was on par with Lewis’s Singapore lap in 2018 if memory serves me well.

I had intended to watch the grand prix but unfortunately slept in. When I heard the result, it wasn’t Max winning which put me off; it was that the order of finishers read out sounded remarkably like the qualifying results. This suggested a dull as dishwater F1 train with no overtaking and I didn’t bother watching.

I do wonder with the sheer dimensions of the current crop of F1 cars, if there shouldn’t be proportional dimensional requirements made of the host tracks to ensure they are sufficiently wide to permit overtaking. May be we can turn a blind eye to Monaco but the drivers should be afforded tracks with overtaking opportunities otherwise, what’s the point?

Peter

Liberty and the F1 promoters are, unquestionably, putting bums on seats at these events, what with the push in to ‘new markets’, but Ross Brawn’s words from a few years ago about ensuring a better spectator sport with more overtaking etc, this driven by lower aero and costs controls, are now ringing very hollow. Bigger cars, more aero reliance, overtaking only achieved in the main by the artificial construct which is DRS with, as said above, qualifying almost determining the outcome of the race at many tracks.

We all know now it’s more about the show, not about the go.

Max’s pole lap was exceptional on Saturday and far exceeded Lewis’s pole in Singapore. Lewis had the fastest car and was leading to championship by a country mile.
