Only one I can remember is Yeasayer. Went out & bought the CD as a result. I don’t even know when ‘Later …’ is on these days. It’s such a safe show which seems to be the exact opposite of what’s required.
I agree - it is very safe now. However, when it first arrived there was nothing else like it and introduced me to so many new artists and bands
He was 32 when he started on Later … and had previously done The Tube (which was great) - he’s 68 now, surely it’s time for a change?
Indeed - and for me because the music OGWT featured was far more to my taste than most of the acts on the odd occasions I’ve seen bits of Later with JH.
This is the other one that sticks in my mind. Vintage Trouble - Blues Hand Me Down, terrific energetic performance.
I absolutely loved watching Battles perform Atlas on Later. If you ever get to see them alive they are just amazing
One of those transcendental performances that I happened to catch at the time. Yes I did get to see Battles live at that small place off Tottenham Court Road that’s closed now, forgotten its name! My memory of that show was a woman behind me saying “what a brilliant noise” during a particular throbbing bass passage. She was right.
It was the Astoria, Charing Cross Road. Long since demolished.
I remember the Astoria well, not far from the old great venue The Marquee in Charing Cross road. Good memories.
Taken somewhere in late 80s early 90s
Good call
Not sure how to get the YT link, but one performance that stands out in my memory is Jools, Dave Gilmour and Mica Paris - I Put a Spell on You.
Touched a chord with me ![]()
