Mirrorball, Elbow.
Papa Hobo, Paul Simon.
Lianne La Havas - no room for doubt
Closest Thing to Crazy - Katie Melua for me
Peace Train - Cat Stevens
Mahler 4 part 3.
“Close to you” by the Carpenters.
It brings back my youth and various girlfriends. My parents when they were in their 30’s. My pet mouse when i was in my teens. But most importantly that one point in a young man’s life when he meets a young lady and becomes a man
I don’t get stressed often, and I have no specific piece of music that I play to de-stress: If specifically for that purpose I’d probably choose something classical, but actually any music would probably do.
That’s a great choice. I’d not given the question any thought but the Cat has some great options and I’d add ‘Morning has Broken’ to the mix.
The risk I suppose is that you end up associating the song with the stress rather than the cure*
*speaking of which, “Friday I’m in Love” used to cheer me up.
Cat Stevens is my goto guy in general when I need a spiritual lift almost any of his will do it.
Friday I’m in Love is a great song, the Cure’s best in my view.
‘You’ve got a friend’
I adore the version by Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway but the original by Carole King can bring tears to my eyes.
“These boots were made for walking” Nancy Sinatra
Beautifully recorded and celebrates agency over adversity
Echoes - Pink Floyd.
“Raping A Slave” by Swans:
When I’m stressed, what I often want is a release - in that case “Lookin’ for a Love” by the J. Geils Band (live version).
If I want calm, possibly “Sweet Baby James” or the Morris & Morath recording of “Till the Clouds Roll By.”
But also the slow movement of Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto.
Emmylou Harris Boulder to Birmingham
“I would rock my soul in the bosom of Abraham
I would hold my life in his saving grace
I would walk all the way from Boulder to Birmingham
If I thought I could see, I could see your face”
Shostakovich: Ballet Suite 4, prelude
This would be first choice followed by Sandy Denny singing Fotheringay.
