I’m sure I recall you posting something on Linn, off topic here but could you be so kind as to point me at it?
Thanks,

indeed, but these days there is no mysticism. The real challenge is with the microphone sources not responding the same as an ear due to the shape of the ear and the exact position of the ear… and therefore the impact and filtering of reflected sound is considerable.
Like for like one can assess and measure. The clever bit in our brain is how we associate the sound we hear and interpolate and in fill. A machine can’t do that.
So we can measure sound very accurately - we can’t easily measure the mapping and association our brains apply to the sound heard through experiences, associations and other cognitive processes. The AES has some interesting research papers in its library on this.
One can measure almost anything - its just knowing how to measure and what to measure and understanding the results of what is measured.
Current commercial audio replay is a significant reality compromise.. so our brains have work quite hard, not least the sound is often processed when producing or even mixing to sound more appealing as well as filtered, distorted and modified through playback
Can you give me a clue what about. ![]()

FR!!! Linn Silvers are the best interconnects I have heard (in my Linn system, which might well be the reason they sound good).
…but, I bet they could…if we had sophiticated enough measuring tools and knew all of the paramaters needed.
For accuracy, my friend Phil said that after the separation SS founded the company who supplied interconnects to Naim. This might not have been Chord and my memory might be hazy, this was in the 1980s.
Even for a 200k plus system?
How measure ordinary vanilla from the best Madagascar one , for taste?
Yes…like an Aston Martin petrol tank is the best petrol tank for that car.
The differences will be measurable as chemical consituents. Our reaction after transduction (at taste buds) is a different matter.
Love our conversations.
Linn Silvers do not contain any silver.
Timbre is visible on an oscilloscope, if you magnify the wave form enough.
But, as always, appreciating music is a subjective experience.
Ordinary (lowest octane fuel, usually 87) Medium (medium octane fuel, usually 89-90) Premium (highest octane fuel, usually 91-94)
Would you put the lowest octane petrol into an Aston?
I imagine you at Paul Bocuse restaurant:
I (vaguely) recollect something to do with the Linn ownership experience but I might be entirely mistaken…..

It might have been over the years I’ve had to write off two Linn systems due to discontinued support.
Looks like many companies might have a short life now too with much procurement of others materials. ![]()

I would use the fuel that the engine was designed to be used with.
…this one is too enigmatic for me!
…and I consider myself to be both English and a European…so it’s centigrade for me.
A joke on measuring food.
You asked for a particular meat temperature when in restaurant. The guy brings it to you, you measure, and then ask for change.
