FINAL VOTE: UPNP BRIDGE FOR NDS. YES or NO?

yes will try Kazoo or Lumin apps again

:joy: it happens

So you can’t stream Qobuz with a Sonore on old streamers without being connected to Roon?
You have to have Roon to stream Qobuz?
I miss something

If you run bubleupnp on a Nas or pc, and add the Sonore to an old streamer, you can stream Qobuz. You don’t need Roon for that. At least what I have understood.

No, but when using the SonoreUPnP Bridge, which presents itself as Roon Endpoint and allows playback from a Roon environment to a Naim Network player through the UPnP input (the Ethernet input), so given that Roon has Qobuz and Tidal integration, this is one solution for marrying internet streaming with local streaming, and having the advantage of the single library, with Roon complimenting your local library with streamed content.

But if Jimdog, for instance, doesn’t want to have Roon, how to stream Qobuz with a 272 and Sonore? He needs a pc I guess too, to run bubleupnp?

The Sonore bridge exposes itself to Roon as a Squeezelite player which Roon can send music to. Squeezelite is a headless music player.

When the Sonore receives this data which Roon thinks is a Squeezlite player it then sends the music onwards to the Naim streamer.

This is how you can bridge from Roon to UPNP. The lms-to-upnp software that I keep banging on about works in the same way.

This is why Roon is the option if you want to use this solution.

To use BubbleUPNP Server you don’t need the Sonore bridge but a computer or NAS on the network. It then works in a similar way by turning a Naim streamer into an Openhome endpoint which software that supports UPNP can send to, like the Linn software or Lumin.

Thank you for jumping in there - it’s amazing that the available product pages are not read, which outline what a product does or doesn’t do.

DESCRIPTION
“Roonify” your DLNA/UPNP devices. The SonoreUPnP Bridge allows you to use Roon or Roon / Tidal to stream to DLNA/UPNP devices.

And therefore also extends to Qobuz, given that Roon added Qobuz as a supported streaming service in addition to Tidal.

I confess not having read it Simon. But I am not interested by streaming Qobuz or Tidal.
Just curious to know how it works.
It’s clearer for me now.

Using my 272 I’m currently comparing the Node 2i and BubbleUPNP using Qobuz

BubbleUPNP is installed on my QNAP along with Minimserver and using the Linn Kazoo app.

Bubble sees my 272 a renderer on the network without additional hardware involved.

What sounds best: Bluesound/ 272 on Qobuz or 272/ bubleupnp on Nas on Qobuz?

I’m still trying to work this out it’s a tough call.
For the past two hours since I installed Bubble I have compared several familiar tracks between the two and still no conclusion.

I will follow your conclusions so…

Not yet I have left this off on purpose but this is next on my settings list.

Local NAS streaming I have Minimserver server set for Flac to Wav and know the benefits.

Orpheus, if you’re still looking for a way to stream Tidal, Qobuz and even Radio Paradise FLAC (With cover art) to the legacy Naim streamers, you might want to check out the Innuos Zen Mini MK3. I have one of these and you don’t need to use Roon (but it’s an option if you do want to use Roon) otherwise a simple app called iPeng (iOS) or orangeSqueeze (Android) does the job.

The Zen mini has an co-axial out. or you can use Ethernet to the Naim streamer via a LMS2UPNP bridge plugin which can be installed with a few clicks.

I’ve been using it like this for a few months with no issues. The SQ is very good. Better than Tidal via native Naim app.

I also have the Zen LPSU on home demo at the moment and it’s made a SQ improvement still.

Innuos is also working on their own control app which is rumoured to improve the SQ further.

thnx. @DomTomLondon
with BubbleUpnpServer on my Nas Synology I can do the same with Linn App / Kazoo or Lumin

One question for you: how did you installed the LMS2UPNP bridge and above all where? on the NAS or on the Zen?

I’ve installed LMS+ LMS2UPNP bridge on my Synology to try to use my NDS with ROON ( installed on my Mac ) but it was not working because ROON needs yo have the LMS off…

just curios

I bought a bluesound node 2i this week.
I ran it into my 272 via spdif, Toslink, and phono rca leads.
Using Qobuz and Tidal hi and low res.
It sounded worse than native Tidal.
Much of what I love about the sound of my system was lost.
The Node 2i had a clear sound but bland and somewhat dead sounding for me.
It went back.
It made me realise how good the 272/555DR is as a streamer.

Meanwhile I did finally get Bubble upnp server SW working on my laptop plugged into my router and also alternaively into my first Cisco, and that did sound good, and does give access to Qobuz hi and low res files as wav.
The Kazoo app is not reliably connecting so far, but I’ve only had it working for 2 days, so need to work out how the machines and SW work together in a stable configuration.

That’s interesting @anon77199223 as I was considering a Node 2i to replace my Rpi4/DAC streamer.

I find the Rpi and DAC is actually better than the UPnP connection to the Uniti 1 built in DAC.

I was going to try the USB out to the Uniti as well to see if that worked.

I can’t get the Kazoo app to find a “room” at all, neither the NAS or the Pi streamer, so I’ve gone back to controlling Qobuz with the Bubble Android app which also allows NAS access, just not in a great UI really.

Interesting point above from @jmtennapel. That was how I got LMS2UPnP to work reliably. I just could not get it to work on my RPi4, so I bought a couple of HiFiberry HATs that solved the problem, but they are not as flexible as the SW solution. Therefore, I installed the SW on my MacMini; at first it was unreliable, then I realised that the beast was going to sleep rather than just turning off the screen, hence the music was stopping mid-song. So a little change to energy management and it works well. And I can control the volume on my ‘Qutes from the Roon app.
Update: the LMS2UPnP also allows Roon to multi room.
