Planning on coming dahn sarf to visit my mother next week so thought that she’d like a trip out to Brighton. I just might visit Ditchling and Streat Bostal whilst we ‘happen’ to be in the vicinity :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::joy:

Very nice Svetty right on the edge of Ditchling
Takes me back to my early twenties and going there with a girlfriend in her car
Haven’t been there since
Just done 15 miles just laps of a lovely straight road with super smooth tarmac which is 1.5 miles long lined with trees.A bit repetitious but always makes me feel good coming back in
No way in your mileage though

Iconic cycle climb at Ditchling Beacon, the first time i encountered it was on the 1982 London to Brighton bicycle ride (in support of the British Heart Foundation) where upon the gradient was to much for my inexperience and heavy Kalkhoff roadster so we had to do the walk of shame… however the following year 1983 i came equipped with a new bike (Dawes Renown iirc) and was fit enough to ride up the hill, it felt like a good conquest at the time :trophy:
41 years ago, haven’t been there since but remember it well

A great memory from the TDF in 1994 going up Ditchling Beacon
I wasn’t there but in Brighton half way up the last climb called Elm Grove which they did 2 laps.I used to find it a right old slog but they flew up it.Probably due to the EPO oxiganted blood pumping throgh their bodies.

I was also at the Beacon in 1990 for the then Milk Race ( Now Tour Of Britain )
It was really exciting the wait for the riders and the cheering and riders names chalked across the road.

Just googled the fastest assent of Ditchling Beacon and it was by Michal Kwaitkowski
He posted on Strava.
3 mins 59s - 1.5 km with an avearage speed of 23.1 km

Sussex rider Sean Yates leads Lance Armstrong up the Beacon in 1994 TDF

More of the Beacon that day in 1994

Did the 5 Warrens on the North Downs near Sevenoaks today. Steady rather than rapid but still they are decent climbs - although not quite as challenging as the Yorkshire climbing we get at home :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Was lead around some local trails, bridleways, (and fields :flushed:) by a friend this afternoon. 37 miles with some full-gas efforts to keep up. Legs now somewhat sore :joy::joy:

Mrs Si agreed to come to France for a few days as it’s my birthday :grinning::tada:. Loaded the bikes. Ferry to Dieppe, and then cycled to Rouen on Friday and back to Dieppe today.

Great couple of days, and a few too many beers. Off to Les Voilles d’Or tonight. Looks amazing

Tour Divide Mountain Bike Race is in the last stages for the fastest guys.

Maybe the worlds hardest bike race. Through Rock Mountains from Banff in Canada to Antelope Wells to the Mexican border.
No entry fees, no prize money. Just honour.
2700 miles, 200000 feet elevation, not allowed to get any help, except to pay a mecanic to fix your bike if you got trouble.

Trip to the seaside. Found and rescued a poorly hedgehog - after a few days in ‘hospital’ he was released.

Does anyone have any tips on painting frame bike to cover chips and scuffs. I have identified the colour which is a RAL one - should I get enamel paint or go for car paint?

Assuming a steel frame, unless for corrosion prevention I would avoid ‘touching up’ minor scuffs etc. It almost always looks sh1te and a bit of patina is expected with time…

Have to agree with Svetty. Either get it professionally stripped and repainted or leave alone.

I protect the most vulnerable bits of my frames with paint protection film (RideWrap) or ‘helicopter’ tape. Probably too late now though!

You can get RAL colours made up as car touch up paint, I had some made up for me, blended in OK.

You can also get micro touch up brushes to put a very small amount of paint on

Thanks all. I will take DiggyGunn’s advice and give it a whirl. I will then most likely have it done properly as per Svetty and BruceW. :slightly_smiling_face:
