Monday night derby…
Showing the benefit of giving a manager time and perhaps a little trust.
Our club is a shambles and rotten at board level and above. We are the laughing stock of the Midlands yet again.
The writing was on the wall when Hegazi got sold behind his back, this recent decision is one of the worst the club has ever made. And getting in Big Sam is just the icing on the cake !!!
Slav had passion for the club and had the players playing for him. We had a few crappy VAR decisions but were playing well as a team, Palace was solely down to the silly MP sending off but we were solid on Weds and proved we can defend. I just don’t believe the ‘honeymoon period’ will work.
I hear Big Sam is going to have a budget in Jan to spend…where was that same budget for Slav pre-season !!!
This is the most hacked off I’ve been with the club since sticking with Pardew for so long. Maybe if a swift decision had been made about him we wouldn’t have even been in this mess.
To add, the Lai ‘investment’ is a joke.
In summary:
Are the players performing - Yes
Is the current squad capable - No
Did I want Slav to go - No
Do I dislike Big Sam - No
…but did I want him as coach - No
Does everything about him remind me of Mike Bassett - Yes
Rant over.
I agree they should have waited, at least another week or so. I’ve got three Villa players in my FFL team this weekend and don’t really want any heroics from Baggies squad trying to impress their new manager thank you very much.
Well I’m feeling pleased tonight. Having beaten Hull City at their place 2 nil, Pompey are now top of League One. We got off to a slow and disappointing start to the season but momentum seems to be building. A long way to go of course but a reason to be cheerful.
Strange to win with two own goals. Still a win is a win and top is top. Who would have expected it from the way they started the season? Good news is hard to find these days.
I find it fascinating so much interest is taken in people running around after a bag of air. My coat is already on.
I find that football is good common ground and the basis for an easy chat with strangers I have met at bus stops, down the pub and on my travels Michael Palin an avid Sheffield Wednesday supporter said where ever he went in the world he found that laughter, a football and packet of cigarettes always broke the ice and I myself met my partner of 20 years because of Arsenal Football club and my nephew and I have bonded over and gone to football matches together since he was a small boy.
Sounds like the White House or Downing Street press corps.
Beep – politics
…but so very true and they often tackle each other like Vinnie Jones going at Paul Gascoigne.
You are not the only one who struggles with this. What I cannot figure out the why and wherefores of is:
1- in a game that is riddled with £billions of TV money et al, why do fans, pundits etc, often refer to owners needing to ‘invest’ in to a club, such ‘investment’ being used on wasting ‘assets’ (player contracts and plethora of enabling fees), which suggests a continual need for new money absent any balancing of the books.
…yet clubs appear to have market values, based precisely on what?
2- I know from reading here and other media that the likes of the EFL clubs appear to dangle by the finest of solvency threads. But why, is it financial stupidity, vanity, or in many cases just wealthy owners indulging themselves?
It’s all a puzzle my little brain cannot put together. And when someone rescues a club financially (e.g. West Ham is one which comes to mind), the fans dislike the new owners (I know there are other aspects in play on this one but a little thanks wouldn’t go amiss given the sums involved).
Slav was true to his word in that he said he would do things differently to Norwich!
It’s a failing model which will be propped up until one day it isn’t.
That wasn’t a tackle, that was rape.
I understand it was only banter but be careful with the language.
Jeez - what a drubbing we’ve just taken from Liverpool. Ouch
That was quite something.
Unfortunately we came up against a proper quality team who utterly exposed all our flaws
Cahill in defence and the loss of Benteke clearly helped but I think most of us would have expected Palace to have given Liverpool a real game today. Early on they did but after that you just have to hold your hands up and applaud.
I’m in Valencia for Christmas at the moment and watching the Barcelona v Valencia game on TV we’re in the 53 minute of the first half Valencia took the lead and firecrackers where going off in the street outside but it’s now 1-1 with more high drama as Messi just missed a penalty but scored on the follow up.
