Yes - and congratulations to whoever invented VAR as well! …blimey - it could have been such a different game.
Shame they didn’t convert anything in the second half - I did feel a defeat was harsh (NOT the first time I’ve said that) and I don’t think either team would have grumbled if it had ended a draw.
Over on the very civilised Leeds forum which I frequent, I posted that our passing was wayward, to say the least, and on the few occasions when we did complete a pass, it was like watching a wee boy kicking a tennis ball against a wall, as the ball invariably simply bounced off the player receiving, with Paddy the worst offender … where’s his ball control?
And, as for our finishing?
Thank goodness for Raphinha, who was left to take on West Ham all on his own.
There are a few players who are looking out if their depth… Costa, Alioski (although I do really like him, he just gets found out a lot!) and Klich (which is a shame - although I believe he’s carrying an injury.
But most of all for me…Tyler Roberts. He had an absolutely AWFUL game - as you say, instantly gave the ball away. He’s just not up to it. Hopefully Rodrigo is now fully fit, and we don’t have to suffer him anymore.
Pat definitely had an off night too. Still think he might get the England nod though - which would be weird obviously!
He’s amazing - they’ll have their resolve tested in the summer I expect.
If we can add Rodrigo De Paul - and then the french left back that’s regularly mentioned, I think next season we will see more consistency. And dish out some proper thimpings!
Do really need some competition for Bamford too - but that’s a very specific player. Not many spring to mind.
I presume you perhaps listen to “The Phil Hay Show” - will be interesting this week, breaking that down and then previewing Chelsea!
Another big week for the Gunners the last 16 of the Europa League against Olympiakos either side of Spurs on Sunday and then West Ham the following Sunday.
I think Ajax has a shot at winning the Europa League this season, but I do have rose-tinted glasses.
What’s the opinion of those here with a more neutral view?
Emphatic win last night albeit with some scary moments but 3 away goals should see us through.
But there where problems As good a keeper as Bernd Leno is his distribution isn’t great the goal at Burnley last weekend and at Olympiakos last night came from him passing the ball into dangerous positions.
I’d hope it was something he could improve upon because in every other aspect he’s a great keeper but teams are beginning to target him when we are playing out from the back.
An entertaining game at Elland Road this afternoon, with The Mighty Whites more than deserving of the point against Chelski.
Mind you, The Blues were very much more professional than us in one important area … that of throwing themselves down onto the green stuff at the slightest contact.
I’m really looking forward to the North London derby tomorrow both The Arsenal and The Spuds are in the driving seat in their respective Europa League ties so perhaps any hesitation about playing full strength sides may hopefully go out the window.
Any word on the Bamford injury? And why was Cooper left out of the squad? Lots of players back from injury now so I hope we can pick up a few points before we run into City/Pool/Utd.
Still can’t believe we got a 0-0. Imagine a full Elland Road.
No news on Bamford until Wednesday’s press conference, and any rumours will be just that … made up gossip.
Cooper, I believe, was feeling unwell, rather than carrying an injury.
Yes, the return of players from injury should help bolster our porous defence, and once Rodrigo is fully up to speed again, watch out for fireworks between him and Raphinha.
I believe he was subbed yesterday because it was always the plan to give him a run out for the final 30 minutes, on his road to recovery from the groin strain, and it was simply that he came on early when Paddy got injured … nothing to see here!
I’m no fan of the Blunts - or indeed the man (he’s pretty vocal in his distaste for Leeds!) but a very strange decision to let Wilder go. Clearly trouble at mill.
Despite some strange signings (nigh on £40m for Ollie McBurnie and Rhian Brewster combined…anybody??) nobody would have had a better chance of getting them back up again than Wilder.
It does bring the similarly strange prospect of Paul Heckingbottom managing a team in the premier league (!!) and taking them to Elland Road, where he was well and truly found out - as I’m sure @fotobrooks and @dave-marshall will attest!
…suspect Mr Wilder will end up at Celtic in short order, and do very well. Although with Celtic - being a folk hero, and being an unmitigated disaster, is a fine line and based on one binary variable!
I hope we’re back in the stadiums soon because watching Norwich on the tv is not good for my health. Wonderful ending today but two thirds was agony.
I don’t know why but I’m always more optimistic watching in the ground, even when it’s the premier league!
