Found the invoice for my Dad's 1st Car. 1939

Found this when looking for something else. He would have been 17 and 3 months. Must have been bought by his parents. Open-top babe magnet. He certainly wasn’t earning until he joined the RAF the following year. Must have been quite rare thing to have at the time.

4 shillings and 6 pence for 3 gallons.

Great find!

My father had an Austin Seven Special as his first car. He named it Lucifer…

Excellent - £33 in 1939 would be worth about £1750 now.

How much would a 1939 Austin 7 be worth today, assuming it was in good condition?

Have you tried searching the reg number to see if car is still in existence ?

Also found a load of petrol coupons. I might try taking them down to Tesco to see whether they will accept them.

Interesting time - a few months later war was declared and petrol coupons came into force.

My dad has a 1929 one and it’s worth about £11k!

Fascinating, thanks for posting.

Hadn’t realised that searching so easily was an option. Just found my father old Jaguar. We had it second hand in the mid 1970s. It existed as recently as 2012. What happened after that really depends on what SORN means in reality.

That registration number is still in use for a 1933 Austin and is taxed until
1st October 2023. :+1:t2:

SORN statutory off road notice. Probably stored in a barn somewhere.

Just checked the reg for Mrs Bs cherished short wheel base 2000 reg Nissan Patrol that she sold a couple of years ago due to excessive rust. V5 shows that it was sold in February this year with MOT. Presumably someone spent time and a lot of cash doing it up. Rather pleased about that. :slightly_smiling_face:

Cracker.
Looks like there is real history and a story there.
It got a new logbook in 2018.

Don’t know if that is the original colour. But I only have B/W photos. I’m totally amazed.

I should give the receipt to the current owner.
