I’m well aware of adzes for woodworking (never used one, though).

Alternatively Big river has a “full sized digging hoe” Don’t know about quality

Like you say, other brands are competitive and can be good value for money, but from my experience Festool are second to none especially in the wood working department. My Kapex sliding compound mitre saw is head and shoulders above the competition by a large margin

Oh that’s interesting. Never heard it called a digging hoe before.

Interesting. I have a Makita equivalent, with which I have been very pleased. What do you see as the advantages of the Festool?

The is no lateral movement which means that the cut can be precise to less than half a millimetre in addition to the accuracy of the laser guide :relaxed:

Ah. Not aware of any lateral movement on mine. I must admit, I don’t often use the laser guide.

Another feature I really like is the clamping mechanism for securing the wood. It is really quick and easy to use without the need to constantly adjust the height of the clamp for different thicknesses of wood. In addition, the dust extraction is superb which leads to a healthy working environment. Wishing you a lovely day :relaxed:

I must admit, while the dust extraction is fairly good, it could be better. One thing I like about the Makita is that the motor body is at an upwards angle to the blade, so mitreing works well either way.

That’s a lovely pocket sized saw and would be ideal for cutting branches that are too large for a lopper. I assume that the blade has a locking mechanism? :relaxed:

Yes has a locking mechanism and fits nicely into secateurs holster.

Here’s a photo of the laser in action. What I particularly like is how the two lines represent the width of the blade and this allows for precise cutting from either side

Yes, that looks a little better than mine, which has only one line, which of course you have to line up with one side or the other of the blade.

What I also like about Festool is their systainer system which allows the boxes to be stacked tidily

They have changed that at some point. The systainer I got with my planer is different from those (though the same as the one that came with my latest Makita drill/driver)

I wasn’t aware that they had changed the systainer design as my electric plane that I bought last year is of the same design

Always nice to have accurate tools, even in the garden. Looks like I need to improve my pruning skills though, I’m embarrassed to say that the damson trees I’ve just pruned are done to nowhere near half a millimetre accuracy

You, sir, are therefore a slap-dash pruner and should not be allowed to prune goosegrass!
