The youngest rider, 20 year old Giulio Pellizzari, sought revenge on Georg Steinhauser and yesterdayâs positional drop to 3rd, but today Pellizzari successfully regained 2nd by winning 1st and 2nd places on Monte Grappa.
Tadej PogaÄar won on the second climb up Monte Grappa and claiming the 40 points to assert his ownership with the Maglia Azzurra in addition to the Maglia Rosa.
<<>>
Some spectators encroached and interfered a bit too far on the final climb!
Just luck nothing bad happened during Tadejâs epic demonstration of superiority.
I watched the first climb last night (our time) and amazed by the stupidity of some of the spectators. There should be motor bikes each side shielding the riders from those idiots, Iâd run them over. Itâs only a matter of time before someone gets hurt.

Thanks Debs now for the Tour De France.
As always Debs I am sure I speak for members who follow this Giro thread.
Thanks so much for all the effort and information and pictures you have posted everyday.
Its got far more information than BBC Sport - Cycling on the Giro.
Poj was so up a level.I have never seen such a winning margin in a Grand Tour before.
Thanks Ian
Seems to me the past 3 weeks have gone like a flash!
IMO the 2024 Giro dâItalia was excellent, not often do we get to see a superhuman win so conclusively:
Tadej PogaÄar is the first rider to win 6 stages and the final classification since 1973 (Eddy Merckx: 6 stage victories).
In Pink from stage 2 to the end : this hadnât happened since 1995 (Tony Rominger, in a 22-stage Giro). By contrast, in the last two editions both Jai Hindley and Primoz Roglic took the pink jersey only on the penultimate stage.
20 Maglie Rosa in a single edition : the second highest of all time behind the 21 of Eddy Merckx in 1973, Gianni Bugno in 1990 and Tony Rominger in 1995. In the first two cases, Merckx and Bugno were in pink from the first to the last stage.
It records the highest gap for a Giro victory since 1965 , when Vittorio Adorni won with 11â26â over Italo Zilioli.

The crashes and injuries were less than usual, nothing really nasty.
The weather let us down on a few stages but only one alteration, and nothing really bad like landslides.
Also last year we had loads of riders sent home with Covid + test, including Remco Evenepoel who was busy wiping the floor with everyone.
Mostly the days this year were nice weather, in fab locations, and with good racing, and the best guy deservedly won.

Thank you for all the kind comments everyone!
Anyone with Grand Tour withdrawal symptoms:
The 2024 Tour de France starts in Florence on 29th June
Many thanks Debs for all your hard work on the thread. You were my main source for information about the stages each day as we progressed. I took out a Discovery+ sub for a month so I could watch elements of it live.
Agreed, and letâs also celebrate the successes of 38 year old Geraint Thomas who came third in the GC, and Jonathan Milan of Lidl-Trek who won the Maglia Ciclamino.
Thank you for the clear reporting as usual @Debs - which is fully appreciated given the commitment you put in to finding the time every day for 3 weeks, with all the information you supply us, and the requirement to format it all for the thread.
Looking forward to the TDF.
Thanks @Debs!
Looking forward to the upcomming Tour de France!
âŚalong with your excellent daily updates!
Not since Lance Armstrong (he says cheekily)
Thereâs an interesting piece by William Fotheringham in the Guardian about Pogacar and his capabilities, and the other really outstanding cyclists of this time.
Not really. He seems a decent guy. I know someone who knows him, and they confirm that. I have arbitrary lists of villains and heroes. I have no personal stake in any of it. I will say that although he basically achived what he set out to do, he raced more-or-less anonomously, and never once tried to shake anything up. I get that people can only do what they can do, but you canât really say his race was entertaining.
Yes, thanks Deb. This is where I came to see the course previews. I know this information is availble on many websites, but the navigation of them is often impenetratable. You made it simple.
Does anyone else find it strange and a bit frustrating that course profile pictures are inevitably numbered from the start, but that TV/streaming coverage counts down the distance from the finish?
