I guess some of its expectations. I played the Rod glasto tonight….i thought it was a great performance, he clearly loves performing, vocals better than i expected. I will be 66 next month, could never sing, dance etc…….but he still can. The vocal range is not like the old Jeff Beck stuff but ffs…….definitely not miming. Great band, and Lulu needs a slot next time.
I reckon Mick Hucknall could do a good turn as well.
Yep, great singer
How about some rock music with a spectacular stage show to end the weekend - thinking Iron Maiden or Rammstein perhaps?
The Jeff Beck Truth album is an all time favourite of mine.
Surprising how many Rod fans have never heard of it, which is a pity as he has never sounded better.
Oh yuk. No thanks. Menopausal old geezer grunt rock.
The festival is finally passing to a younger demographic. Olivia was a fine, up vibe energetic end to it.
A big plus for Rammstein
Really?! I thought he looked and sounded like an embalmed automaton with a bit of scoleosis thrown in. Bordered on elder abuse. Rod Stewart and Neil Young little better
I thought The Prodigy absolutely smashed it. They were good at Reading last year but they were transcendent on Sunday
Truth is a fabulous album with one of the best versions of Old Man River. Also Ronnie Wood on bass.
So, who for the “Legend” slot in '27?
UB40 would get my vote, but Ali and Robin would have to kiss and make up first.
Otter was back this year
REM please. Yes…I know…
Smiths or Depeche Mode. One more likely than the other. One I’ve seen at Glastonbury, the other at the O2 last year.
B-52s or Butthole Surfers (I know, I have eclectic tastes!)
Prodigy and Olivia Ordrigo were the essence of modern Glastonbury IMHO.
Modern? The Prodigy have been around 35 years. But yes, they still sound current
Let’s face it, you can’t please everyone, so a mixture is essential. The organisers have a difficult task.
I enjoyed Rod, the Prodigy, Olivia Rodrigo, Alanis Morrisette, Myles Smith and several more, but the majority were not to my taste (I am old!). My biggest disappointment was Neil Young, his voice was weak and barely audible at times. Maybe the sound system was not well set up?
Pulp, Snow Patrol and Alanis Morrisette I enjoyed most of all the heritage acts and all of them are releasing good new music. Gery Newman is on my want-to-watch list. I watched a bit of Neil Young and enjoyed it and planned to watch the rest, forgetting he wasn’t allowing the BBC to put it on Iplayer.
Of the more recent acts, Wet Leg, Wolf Alice, Katy J Pearson, Wunderhorse, Lorde, Osees and Sprints are probably the acts I enjoyed most.
There were a few acts I watched one or two songs and decided whilst they were undoubtedly good, they were not for me. And a few acts I thought, I wanted to see more of after a couple of songs but someone I wanted to see was about to start their set so were added to the must-watch list or needing to cook etc meant I couldn’t watch them live.
This list may change as I watch the acts I couldn’t watch live over the next week or so.
I do wish some of the lesser stages were on Iplayer but I think there is some on BBC Sounds so I will investigate that to see what hidden gems are there.
Overall I think it was a good year, with something for most people to like and the weather for the festival was pretty near perfect, though the journey home for many must have been tough with the heat on Monday.
