Help 552 power supply?

I dusted the 552 set up and disturbed the power cable. The 552 power supply went off and now re assembling everything there is no power to the 552 power supply. I have tried another cable and still nothing. Is there an internal fuse that I can check?

Edit
As you were. There is a fuse holder and spare fuse next to the power input. The fuse has blown so I will put the spare one in. My eyes aren’t that good but it looks to be a T3 15 amp fuse. Can anyone confirm?

The fuse holder is next to the mains inlet. Hopefully you will find a spare inside, as well as the presumably blown one. Ensure you insert the replacement the same way round as the blown one.

If dusting disturbed the mains lead, this suggests it wasn’t inserted fully. If it’s a powerline you need to give it a really good shove, holding only the silver part, to get it to latch correctly. Once inserted correctly it should be very robust and should not come adrift when dusting.

Thanks HH. All working again with the spare fuse.

I just need to confirm that replacement fuse rating.

Great. The fuse rating should be written on the back of the 552PS, if I recall correctly.

As HH posts above, it would suggest that the Powerline wasn’t fully inserted. For details on this see here;

Just for anyone else who has this happen. The fuse adjacent to the socket on the rear cannot be felt. I’d imagined a round holder sticking out. It is a flush fitting prise open/ push in holder.

Of course this whole experience tells me that I shouldn’t meddle with things I don’t understand. I’ll not pick up a duster again. :slightly_smiling_face:

555ps or 552ps?

Sorry, it’s a typo. Now corrected. Thanks.

Genuine question as I don’t have a 552. Wasn’t sure if a 555psu could be used or not. But thank you for clarifying, it will help others in future too.

The 552 can only be used with its own power supply. The 552 is different to the other Naim amplifiers, something to do with how it’s powered.

The 552 uses a split rail supply.

Dusting can cost this??? Oh god I frequently use some fine duster to wipe through my units when it is turned on. Do I need to worry? Is it due to statics. I am sorry I am not fully knowledgeable on these things.

Naim PSUs seem prone to blowing fuses. That has been my experience (and my PowerLines are fully inserted just fine).

No it isn’t due to static. I moved the powerline cable with the duster. That moved the connection point in the chassis. I suspect the fuse blew because of that movement of the chassis.

Are you happy that you’ve plugged it in properly this time? When my Naim was on Fraim I’d wedge the front with my knee while shoving in the PowerLine from the back. Some were really hard to connect whilst others connected with a lot less force.

Thanks for the heads up. Yes it’s well in now. It wasn’t before but it was connected. I could see the movement of the assembly as I dusted the cable and moved it.

That’s great. It would be a shame to miss the enjoyment of dusting.
