Help wanted in relation to the uniti core

I have checked all the uniti core posts i can find. But as it is chugging away ripping my cd collection, I am running into some stuff that i do not comprehend. I hope that there are more knowledgeable people that will be able to help me understand.

1 The Core is connected via Ethernet to a switch (which it shares with my pc and QB2 for now). It get’s most of the trackdata just fine, so internet connection is therefore validated i presume. However, i can not playback music from the Core to the QB2 via Ethernet. I can press play on the Core, but no input on the QB2 or Nova will result in music being played audibly. What am i doing wrong?

2 If i approach the Core via my computer It will be opened up in a browserscreen showing just a big black screen without any navigational options or content.

3 I intend to install the Core in the living room after ripping the collection and connect it with the BNC connector to the Nova, hoping that will at least allow me to playback the collection on the main system. Would it matter if there are switches between the core and the router and from there on again between the router and the QB2 for playback?

  1. When you press play on the Core, you are actually starting a session of playing via its digital output to whatever is connected, which in your case is nothing! What you must do is to go the Nova or QB2 and select servers on the Home Screen of the Nova or QB2 and then select the Core and then choose music and press play from there. That way sends the music by upnp over the house network.
  2. Yes that’s because you are trying to look at the Core’s webpage. You must open the Core as a network resource, using a network explorer not a web browser.
  3. That’s fine. It doesn’t matter where the Core is as long as it gets a network connection, so you can have as many switches as you like. Of course there are lots of people here that will tell you that you should buy an expensive switch or Ethernet cables made by virgins out of gold mined at midnight (or some other nonsense like that). But ignore them completely. Once you have got it working then you can tinker with the switches and Ethernet cables if you really feel there is nothing better in your life to do!

I see David H has explained it all, so I hope you now have music from the Core. I was confused at first and tried to play music from the Core to a streamer. It all works brilliantly now with ND555, Muso2 and MusoQB1 all connecting with each other.

That really helped me David, thanks. allthough ragarding question 2, how do i do that, the browser opens when i double click the core when i use the network explorer, on right mouse click it only shows “Open mediaplayer, open webpage, create shortcut and details..

Are you using windows 11 or a Mac?

Windows 11

OK. Basically you need to map the Core’s downloads folder as a network drive.

The downloads folder will appear if you type \\uniticore123456.downloads/ into your address bar at the top of the screen that opens when you press the windows key and E simultaneously. Of course type your Core’s serial number instead of 123456!

I can’t tell you how to map the drive as it’s ages since I last did it, but google or ChatGPT will be able to help.

I find that I have to have my windows 11 pc connected by Ethernet (and not WiFi) for this to work and there has been discussion about this in an earlier Core thread.

funny thing, my laptop is connected via ethernet (same switch as Core) but i get notified that i don’t have access…

This is a windows 11 security thing, in that connecting to a remote drive that use guest access is deprecated since (I think it was) the 2025 H2 windows 11 update. As I said, you can find what you have to do if you look for the Core thread where this was discussed or you can also find it by googling windows 11 guest access to remote stores or similar.

I had a similar access problem . Follow Naims advice in the above post exactly and it worked for me.
