Sorry to bore everyone here, I thinks its a dead genre, recycled cliche’s from 20 years ago and nothing new under the sun. I’ll wait till that changes, good listening if it does it for you of course.
Hey Martin. That depends what you mean. Old school hip hop and R&B is, er, old school and, by definition, retro. But if we’re talking about the broader church, it’s a hotbed of innovation – way more than, say, guitar-based rock. There’s a load of old poop about, for sure. Just like every genre. But have you heard, for example, Anderson .Paak, FKA Twigs, Flying Lotus, Kelsey Lu, JPEGMAFIA (among many others)? To my far-from-expert ears, they sound anything but dead or recycled cliches. Your mileage may vary, of course.
