Thanks. I’m working on it. Apparently the dust works best if it doesn’t touch the floor, so it’s quite difficult to come by.

Ah, damn. So that’s where I’m going wrong!
Best regards, BF
There are lots of comments about speaker brand X rewarding careful set up and speaker brand Y being less fussy. Is it such a stretch to consider electronics brand X rewards careful set up and electronics brand Y being less fussy?
Speakers however have physical properties that interact directly with the room and listener, e.g., construction principles like whether and where it has ports have a direct influence on placement options. Mids and tweeters can have a wider or narrower dispersion angle, directly influencing how much it reacts to side walls or toe in. And so on. I can’t see much similarity to electronics, which may be more or less sensitive to microphony, but that’s about it as far as I can tell
Why do the different electronics physical construction properties not react differently to what they sit on? Some have internal suspension, different types of feet, dead vs ringing casework etc?
I guess that’s true, but all these aspect still have only (and at best) indirect effects on the sound via electronic microphony, and I would still expect the differences to be orders of magnitude smaller than the very direct speaker interactions
How good is the ND555? Exceptional!! And there you have it.
Should have on the end "as far as i am concerned "
FFS Dunc. We finally get the answer at post 268 and then you go and sow those seeds of doubt again
Of course this entire thread should be in ‘Streaming Audio’ and must therefore be ignored and moved to the correct place.
Standards….
Well thats how it is, sorry.lol
Yes, it is not exactly nice, I deleted my post. My point was that it was a badly designed car, I would not mind to own one just to show off, but I would not drive it.
The thing is Naim do things different to everyone else. If they copied everyone else’s way of doing things then they wouldn’t be Naim and this world would be a lot more boring than it is rapidly becoming … because everyone else wants to do the same, almost too frightened of standing out from the crowd, or doing what it really takes to be a genuinely high performance audio company.
Weird indeed! I merely answered the original post directly:-
“How good is the ND555?”
I said “okay but the Rossini/Vivaldi is better”
Having owned a ND555, it was a direct answer to the question raised. You may agree or disagree on this (and I don’t really care either way), but strange it was not.
You know what you are getting into as you go up the Naim hierarchy - set up requirements, racks, Burndies, big ol’ power supplies etc. If this is not for you, then other brands are available.
I just don’t believe anyone will get their new 500 system home and suddenly declare they just can’t handle those pesky Burndies, let alone mastering the art of massaging them!
What you will find are those of us who have been on the Naim merry go round 25+ years and starting to grow tired of the multiple boxes cables etc. I have several friends who binned their 500 systems and moved to an all in one integrated.
I made the decision two years ago to stick with what I know and invested in recapping and DR’ing my 552 and 500. I’m good for the next 15 years however if Naim release a 500 level integrated I will be one of the first to jump.
As for digital I cast my lot in 2011 and jettisoned my CD555 for a Linn KDS. This was after having heard the HDX on its release and the NDS later on. The Linn has been upgraded all along until two years ago when the dCS Rossini kicked it out of the main system.
As we grow older simplicity becomes very attractive.
I am with you all the way, only difference being no linn for me, nds and 2 power supplies was my lot, before i stumbled on the rossini, that day i will always remember very well, the same sort off moment i first saw and heard a naim 52, 6 pack all them years back down Tottenham Court Road back in the 80’s
Yes, this will happen to us all one day.
But until that time, let the music play!
Yes, I had noticed the big ol’ power supplies in my room. Can’t really not notice them with all that humming going on
The Power Amplifiers Reference manual talks about lots of things including siting of equipment, min speaker length, keeping contacts of interconnects clean etc.
It doesn’t say anything about massaging burndies. If that is so critical why doesn’t it mention the exact torque requirements for the collars and what massage oil works best? Why does Naim not sell a burndy massage table and why do I have be a Naim forum nerd to find those things out?
That does make me wonder why the burndy cables aren’t pre-massaged if it’s that important. After all, there is a Snaic shaker at the factory. Maybe burndies would stiffen up in transit?
