I would like a Naim App that

Well I guess using the iOS app on Mac OS isn’t the “nornmal” intended use case. I do, however, prefer controlling it via desktop Mac Mini.

Ugh my app updated I want my red theme back and decent sized volume buttons as if making small adjustments isn’t hard enough on the 282. I’d absolutely love to be able to virtually adjust the dial like that linn app but maybe that would require the newer style of pot? Also if they are going to change things anyway I’d like standby on the homepage rather than in the menu. And whilst I know this is probably a joint iOS and naim thing but I wish naim playback showed on the Lock Screen naturally like Spotify.

Edit- the volume buttons do seem a little more responsive actually, though that could just be me

I was hoping for a numerical indication of the volume level in the app.
The BubbleUPnP app is offering this already for years, so it looks like the data is available to be used in the Naim app as well.

They can show a slider, so the current level must be known.

I don’t think the preamp can feed information back to the streamer and on to the i-device. Hence, it’s not possible to see the selected volume on your iPad. The volume could also be adjusted by the preamp remote control or even by rotating the volume control by hand. Hence, there is no way the app could know the volume level.

Not with all streamers. There is no slider visible on the app with ND streamers, for instance.

There’s no reason why the numerical volume level couldn’t be shown on a Uniti or a streaming preamp, or on the New Classic preamps which have a digital system automation connection to the streamer.
It’s only the Classic and earlier preamps that have traditional Alps volume pots that can’t feed back the required information.

I would like to see the Radio Paradise “skip” or “forward” button that is available on other apps.
In my Naim app, while playing Radio Paradise, this button does not exist.

For RP I use the RP app with Chromecast. That way I get the skip button and tapping on the currently playing song brings up track information and lyrics and swiping right shows the most recently played tracks. It is a far better experience than just playing through the Naim app that doesn’t even show album art.

… has the option to display the name of the composer of the track.

I listen almost exclusively to classical music and very frequently I hear a track from a Qobuz playlist and it is likely displayed as something like -

II Adagio
Symphonies from Brahms, Schubert and Beethoven

So I don’t know who the composer was or which symphony it was.

Which is pretty crap in this day and age

So weird error that’s now happened two days in a row I’ve turned my system on in the morning and the volume up and down options aren’t available until I close and reload the app.

The Styles option has vanished on the latest version, just light or dark themes remain? Is this correct? The volume buttons are ridiculous - how does this stuff get through beta testing?

The styles options change was a Naim design decision. It’s deliberate. We did query that during beta testing.

Also, as you know we aren’t allowed to discuss beta testing, but it would be naive to think that everything that is picked up in beta testing is always fixed before the software is released….

Just to add to what David wrote, we did pick up the size of the volume buttons, and did request larger ones, and I for one will keep banging that drum. It may not look like it but there are significant changes in the way the app is put together, and the emphasis has to be on the functionality rather than minutiae of aesthetics.

Ok thanks, minutiae certainly comes to mind alright. Can you outline the functionality changes?

My Star went into the auto overheating shutdown today. It looks like the iOS app update defaulted back to server mode, causing it to get hot. There hadn’t been any other changes to that system, somt was a bit random.

I had the same a few days ago.
I rebooted my mobile and the buttons appeared.

The new layout looks clumsy to me, listening to the radio now and on my iphone I have to scroll down to alter volume, also the station info has been removed from it’s previous position under the station name and again you have to scroll down to read - I dont get the point in these changes as they achieve nothing and render the app more tedious to use. Updates should be an improvement over previous versions. Poor.

I rather like the changes now that I have got used to them. The information on the My Devices screen showing what is playing on the devices (ex Qb) with the ability to alter volume and pause without going into the device itself is useful.

On the Android version, the station info is unchanged and no need to scroll down to the volume so it seems that the Apple version is rather different.

The latest app version is a big improvement
