I doubt naim would have designed in such a way that the springs could be dislodged, even if moved without the transit screws fitted.
Looking at the brass plates. The fact that there are two counter bored holes, would suggest vertical movement is restricted, as well as lateral movement.
Yes, so long as youâre reasonably careful then thereâs no need to install the transit bolts in the NDS when moving it from say, one rack to another in the room.
It was really the CD players such as the CDS/CDS2/CDS3 where the danger lay as, if the tray bolts werenât engaged then the tray pins could easily jump out of the cups and you may not be any the wiser - except then wondering why the player sounded a bit âoffââŚ
When the new update 3.12 is released for the new streamers, does anyone know if the nds will get an update too? I hope so as 4.9 has left a rather edgy top end, which it didnât have with 4.8.
Naim continue to support the earlier platform (as used by the NDS) with updates where necessary, but canât develop it further by adding new services.
I believe this is still correct.
Did you have a Naim DAC?
Really?
Much better SQ than a very well set up Qobuz internet delivery?
I agree, I think if people find a difference between local and Qobuz on THE SAME recording than itâs likely their streaming delivery isnât fully optimised. I found adding a 2nd EE8 to the NAS so making the whole system optimised switches and the router only a single cable connection to a core switch made everything better. Weird but seems network for audio is really hard to get rightâŚ.
Yes i do. Why do you ask?
When I paired the ndac with a Primare NP5, qobuz was so good, I disconnected the Nas.
It gets reconnected occasionally when I want to back up data on my PC. ![]()
Yes
The firmware for the old streamers and Unitis is completely different from that for the new platform streamers like ND555.
So itâs not likely that Naim would update 4.9 at the same time as the update for ND555.
Yes - also whatâs have heared with every streamer I own or owned (hdx, nd5xs2, qute, muso2, nd555 and nds)
The 606 imo are a bit sensitive to bass. With too dry bass they can sound a bit artificial. Therefore the fw update was not satisfying as it went too dry and hard in bass. Older fw as well as nds have mote fruity bass. I can imagine, that other room/speakers do profit from a faster bass.
That is the difference between NDX2 and NDS also, the NDS have a much deeper and natural performance .
We are a bit old school, are we
. I think I would have preferred nds over ndx2 (3.8). nd555 with 3.8 was a good evolution - less smooth ⌠more detail and authority but not harsh. Good balance.
Well newer are not always better and especially when
weighing in the price tag..
When you at the photos above and consider the current market price of nds ⌠wow
ND555 have better definition, top end, details, control, speed than NDS I assume? At least when on 3.8?
Does anyone remember the mod for the NDS if the remote control did not work? I had to do mine and it is a bit of a process getting out of the sleeve. Had to attach a bit of electrical tape next to the heat shield to prevent it touching the IR unit when it warmed up.
Tim.
When I compared ND555 and NDS,I thought that the ND555 sounded cleaner but not faster.
I preferred the more analogue feeling of the NDS.
